Some people have in Masjid, some at home, some at the hall (where the func is held)… Some on Mehndi, Some on Barat etc…
where did u have ur Nikkah…? And how?
I might sound weired to u, but nowadays the wedding n all is being fixed and i guess elders are thinking to have it on the Mehndi where as i always thought to have my Nikkah on the Barat (Rukhsati)… I’m trying not to think too much about it, but can’t help it…
So thought to share with you guys and see how was it with u?

personally i prefer the idea of the nikah during the barat function and then rukhsati straight after on the same day but there's no harm in doing it on the mehndi if thats what ur happy with. i went to a wedding like that last yr. they did the nikah in the hall infront of everyone and then the bride came out and then the mehndi function started. they held the rukhsati on the same day as the walima function. its the first and only wedding ive been to thats happened like this but it worked out quite well for them. one thing i found though was that the older generation didnt like this set up. there was a lot of aunties gossiping and saying that they just tried saving money by doing this way but generally most ppl found it to be ok. if ur happy with it then go for it :)

I got married in pakistan, mirpur...some yrs ago
I had my nikkah (at home), but no rukhsati (because all my family were not there)
I came back, worked and went back with family and had a big wedding
and brought back my hubby with me!
But i guess what we usually do ( and what we will do at my sis wedding) is have : -
nikkah on a sunday ( no rukhsati )
dayarra on monday
galiya/sangeet tuesday/wed/thursday
mehndi on friday
baraat/rukhsati on saturday
walima on sunday
So you will have a whole week of celebrations!! :happy
I wouldnt really recommend nikkah on the rukhsati day, as your bound to get emotional
wid all your rellys bawling there eyes out! :cry and ruin your make-up,
but i guess you can still have your nikkah on the same day if say you have your nikkah
first BEFORE getting ready, i know a few ppl that have done that!

Dayarra is when they mark the starting of days counting upto the wedding
and on this day the boys side bring a choor ( gifts wrapped in a big satin/silk sheet )
and the girls side open, and then fill it with gifts from their side tie it ang give it back.
After when the groom side leave the girls side spray the whole of the boys side
(inc granny, uncle, aunti jis) with colours!
its really fun!! alot of ppl do this in their weddings.

^ wow....interesting tradition indeed. this is the first time I have heard of something like this. must be regional.
we had our nikah in the actual hall before the rukhsati. we wanted all of our family and friends to witness it.

My parents are also thinking about getting my nikkah with mehendi and then Have like a wedding reception(combining rukhsati and walima)
My Fiance is not gonna have that many guests since they are smaller family comparing to mine. So the guest list going to be very similar for both days.
So instead of 2 smaller functions, we are thinking of doing 1 big.
I always imagined myself wearing red and all dolled up at nikkah time. But i guess what ever saves money and is better.
Lets see if it works out right now its just an idea.

I always imagined myself too, in the barat wala joda signing the Nikkah papers n all, but looks like my Nikkah gonna be on Mehndi day too.. but im happy, if everyone want it to be like that.

On my Nikkah im thinking to have a separate duppatta, at Nikkah time i'll try to have it on head..... is thr any specific colour for NIKKAH........? have u guys ever heard of it.?

we in our family usaually wear white/silver (with kaam on it) it will luk gud, so dnt worry and go for it, good luck!!

I'm sure white looks good, but since my Nikkah will be on mehndi day, i guess white will not look good on my Mehndi outfit....

A few weddings I've been to have had the nikah on the mehndi so that the groom and bride can sit together on the stage, but don't have "rukhsati" till the next day on the actual wedding day followed by valima, so it's pretty much the same as a regular wedding, juts nikah on a different day.

if it happens and whenever it happens insha Allah its gonna be in my village ... thats my dream...not in a five star hotel in LA :) in my village ... back to where i'm from...back to my roots :) iA :)

Exactly, i've been to quite a few weddings in the past few years where they had the Nikkah on the Mehndi, Barat (Rukhsati) the next day and valima the following day.... Alot of ppl do it this way i guess.

Mine will likely be in the masjid. I would love to have it the day of the reception, but it will be hard to manage both events in one day for me.

Mine was in Masjid at like 8 in the morning. Went home had bkfast with guests.. dropped hubz at the airport in few hrs. Came home.. SLEPT!
