When was Islam Completed?

When was Islam completed?

Was it completed when the last ayat of the Quran was revealed?

Or was it completed when Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) passed away and his sunnah was left?

Or was it completed after this?

My point is, where have we drawn the line?

If Islam was completed after Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) died then whats stopping us from adding stuff into it now?

Your rational un-emotional thoughts please

"Today, I have completed and perfected your religion for you and chose Islam for you as your Deen" (5:3)

This could have only be revealed when Mohammad was alive. Thank you. Take it easy sir.

Allah (swt) says in the Qur'ân:

"For those people who are differing from the commands of Prophet, there will come to them either a Fitnah (test or trial from Allah) or a severe punishment."

Jazakallah, Watcher.

I take it from the lack of answers to this that

a) people are afraid of the truth

b) they do not have enough knowledge about this, in which case we have to investigate further.

Let me know which category you are in.

Jazakallah

I think this is a very interesting topic and refutes most of the points, which some sects carry as their basic beliefs.

As watcher quoted, this verse could have been last one. it clearly says “Today, I have completed and perfected your religion for you and chose Islam for you as your Deen”

About Al-Maida: Hadhrat Ayesha(ra) is reported to have related that this is the last sura. This may not be strickly true but, considering together all the different traditions, one is led to the conclusion that the chapter was certainly revealed in the last years of the Prophet’s ministry and some of its verses are among the latest to be revealed. Though Imam Ahmad says on the Authority of Asma, daughter of Yazid, that the whole of the Sura was revealed together, it seems that as the major portion of it was revealed at one time, the whole of it came to be regarded as having been revealed at the same time.

Even after that, Prophet Mohammad (saw) continuously received revelations till his demise. These are not part of Quran as most other revelations, they are termed as Hadith-e-Qudsia.

Lets see what others say on this.

CooldDude,

This is a tough question yaar and not as simple as it may first appear. Firstly, as far as completion of Islam and Completion of The Holy Quran are concerned, well to the best of my knowledge, The Holy Quran was not revealed in the same sequence as it is compiled. ie the way we know it today (I may be wrong about this.. but I'm sure I heard it from some Imaam)The various Ayaths were revealed to reflect the circumctances at the time. Once the holy quran was revealed in its entirity, was it then compiled into the form we know today.
Hence if you look at the Ayath which was quoted by Watcher, its NOT at the end of the Holy quran but more towards the beginning ?.

The other aspect is that even when the Holy Quran had been completely revealed, the Holy Prophet (SAW) was still teaching his followers the meaning of the revelations he had received from Allah Taala. Basically just because Allah Taala had revealed the last ayath to the Holy Prophet(SAW) does not mean that the muslims of that time had fully understood the meanings of what had been revealed.

So if you mean by 'completed' that nothing 'new' would be added/revealed, then I suppose it could be considered 'complete' when the Blessed Prophet (SAW) had fully received the Holy Quran and relayed it to his followers at the time.

Thats my humble opinion !.

Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon You.
