This is direct from the source, I just wonder how on earth they let cricinfo write this! anyways when you are the richest cricket board on earth you own whats said on the tv, puppet show!

“Local commentators are already asked to wear the BCCI logo and are asked not to mention sensitive subjects like the spat between Greg Chappell and Sourav Ganguly, or controversial selection issues, no matter how germane they might be to the action. There has been talk that eventually the BCCI will have their own cricket channel. No doubt the viewers will get to see only what the BCCI want them to see and, with compliant commentators on board, they will hear only what the BCCI want them to hear.”
^ Coporate Giant is the name of the phenomenon.:) All corporates do that. Only remarkable thing in this whole episode is that all this is happening for the first time in the cricketing world.
The original comment was made by Atherton in Sunday Telegraph. In the CricInfo article, Nimbus has strongly denied the "allegation". Lets take all comments and their denials with a good dose of salt. The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.
Having said that, the direction that BCCI is taking in terms of arm twisting production companies, and controlling the commentators, will be roundly and consistently criticized in days to come.
Nimbus and BCCI are the same as, now Dell and Alienware bought by Dell. The idea is itself stupid if you want to bare the commentators from commenting, why not provide them with the script to read in-b/w balls are bowled.
Perhaps in the near future we will see alot of Java, Arun LOL and many others.
I am sure you are just facetious. Yes, Nimbus is absolutely terrified of displeasure by BCCI, but the relationship is more like a small vendor with just one large customer (like if you sell sandwiches and Microsoft is your only customer).
Having said that, censoring commentators from talking about cricket-related stuff just because it makes some highups of BCCI uncomfortable is definitely silly and absolutely unfair to the viewers.
Monopoly always has bad results.... BCCI is turning into literal monopoly in game of cricket....... and they are acting like one..........
They should protect interest of Indian cricket, but acting like one big brother, they will mess up quickly..
Good gesture of saying 20% of all income will go to other sports, though that should have been done by Govt. for equity distribution rather than BCCI taking big brother approach.
Ofcourse its big enough for our ex defence minister to head it, while other organisations are headed by smaller politicians.......... :-)
Sorry this is off topic but some coalition of small banks (small = smaller than walmart) is getting together and strongly opposing walmart’s move to venture into the banking business. They have complained to the supreme court or something to stop walmart from opening a bank because they know once the 10 ton alligator enters the pond even the piranhas dont stand a chance.
Wow, BCCI seems to never stop backing from being the Cricket giant just like WalMart is here in the US.
But truly, BCCI can generate more revenue than any other Cricket board in the world and that's what makes them so powerful.
