my baby is 4 months now and her adjusted age is 2 months . Sometimes I feel that milk is not sufficient for her so should I start giving solid food to her ? and any suggestion for solid food ?
Re: when to start solids ?
I've heard 4-6 months. What does the ped say?
Re: when to start solids ?
i will be taking her to her ped soon
Re: when to start solids ?
not BEFORE the 4 month!
Re: when to start solids ?
we start at 4 months here in denmark.. but not if its a preemie.. they wait until the 6th month mark..
BUT
every baby is diff.. if ure baby is showing signs of readiness like grabbing ure spoon.. or jumping towards food and licking her lips.. then u can start slowly with very little food.. but ya first talk to her ped
Re: when to start solids ?
Yes, talk to the doc. Preemies are didferent, the muscles in their mouths and throats may take longer to develop to the point of being able to handle food even if its soft. If milk and formula dont satisfy her, the doc may suggest thickening the formula a couple of times a day or adding a little bit of cereal to a couple of bottles. But check with the doc to make sure she's ready for it.
Good luck!
Re: when to start solids ?
Well I posted the same question here in a german forum and the mothers there eat me and a few others who told them they started with soilds at the age of 4 months, some are so fanatic that they dont believe in solidas before 6 months.
Re: when to start solids ?
okay I understand that because she is a premie the muscles in her mouth & throat may take longer to develop. But yea she is showing signs of readiness. Will definitely not start her solids without consulting her doctor. Thanku all for your replies :)
Re: when to start solids ?
Most peds recommend rice cereal at 4 months followed by pureed veggies and fruits. I did start early with my daughter BUT we didnt get really serious about eating till much much later. You also need to be sure you are introducing things one at a time to rule out any allergies.
