Well I am at 37+ 2 days today, feeling perfectly fine so far. No pains or signs of labor. This is my first baby. When do you think I should start leaves. Company is willing to grant 60 days leave. I am sooooo confused.
Re: When to start Maternity Leave!
MashAllah for ur smooth pregnancy.i think now u should take maternity leave. Take some rest before ur lil one comes.
When to start Maternity Leave!
Mashallah congratulations!! Where are you based? I took mat leave 3 weeks before my due date, luckily I did because I was a week early. Xx
Re: When to start Maternity Leave!
I actually prefer to have maximum time possible at home after baby comes, so if you’re feeling fine then why not carry on working as long as possible…I stopped a week before baby was born and was bored after three days at home.
Re: When to start Maternity Leave!
I say wait till a week before or literally go into labor if the pregnancy is easier. believe me you would want to save the time!
Re: When to start Maternity Leave!
depends on how stressful your job is really. If you’re not feeling too tired or can work from home occasionally, then I would say keep your leave for later when the baby arrives.
Re: When to start Maternity Leave!
I worked until the day before. The day off was eid and I couldn’t do anything before I was so big n tired. I am glad I didn’t waste my time before the baby got here…you need it before. Also depend on your household as well. We live alone and being home alone just wasn’t that safe or fun.
Re: When to start Maternity Leave!
Only 60days? You get 9 months here or up to a year with last 3 months unpaid. That is very quick after having a baby.
I would start leave as late as possible, at about 39 weeks, If your health is ok and u r feeling fine. First babies are normally late.
Re: When to start Maternity Leave!
60 days mommy leave? That doesn’t sound right .. ![]()
I would start as late as possible to make sure you had more time with baby.
Re: When to start Maternity Leave!
^ standard maternity leave in USA is 6 weeks! its just sad.
OP … i’d agree with other … if your health allows … wait till the last min for leave.
i worked till one week before i was due and stopped only because I had excessive feet swelling and my work invloves long (12-14 hrs) on my feet … that and because my OB freaked out.
Re: When to start Maternity Leave!
That’s sad!
It’s much longer in Europe.
Re: When to start Maternity Leave!
What Wendy said.
Can’t imagine what to do with 6 weeks ![]()
When to start Maternity Leave!
Yup mat leave sucks in US…6 weeks…that’s it :hinna:
Re: When to start Maternity Leave!
This is where Canadians rock. One full year and 55% of your pay thanks to EI. Thank goodness!! 6 weeks is ridiculous.
Re: When to start Maternity Leave!
oh, atleast in pakistan, they gave 90 days mat leaves
If u r perfectly fine then take leaves after 39 weeks. its better to have rest after delivery
Re: When to start Maternity Leave!
I had a smooth pregnancy too except for the nausea which was terrible till month 6. I went to work till last day. Friday was my last day at office and next monday morning had my son Mashallah
Re: When to start Maternity Leave!
I went on leave at 36 weeks, best decision it was for me. I had pretty awful spd and nausea that lasted up to the day I delivered. But then we can take leave up to a year here in UK.
Re: When to start Maternity Leave!
I worked up to the last day. I was allowed 3 months of maternity leave but it was unpaid. I used up all of my hours and then took leave without pay.
Generally speaking it really depends on you and your body. If you live in a country that allows an extended amount of leave, take advantage of it and take leave when your body tells you its time.
Re: When to start Maternity Leave!
I am in US so I knew I ll have only 6 weeks and I wanted to use that time with the baby.
Both times, my employers were very good and were lenient with me so I could sometimes leave early as well. I was working till the end.
If you need time to shop baby essentials, may be take a couple days off. If not, with only 60 days off and no complication/problem, my suggestion would be to keep going to work.
