people become lenient towards that person. Some try to stop passing negative comments and some all of sudden start seeing new positive dimension of his / her personality.
Mehtab Mehboob is a well known name in Sindhi literature. Her short stories, novels, columns and dramas got appreciation from Sindhi masses. I personally envy her language. Flawless flowing Sindhi. Got a chance to read one of her columns published in early 90s just after Benazir Bhutto’s first government was dismissed by Ghulam Ishaq Khan. In that column, Mehtab Mehboob criticised Benazir Bhutto like anything for her government’s inefficiency to handle ethnic riots in Hyderabad and Karachi. She reported a press conference telecasted from PTV, where BB came with teary eyes for killing of Kashmiris and said that Benazir could not see the crop of dead bodies in Sindh. She quoted one of Benazir’s friend’s words that ‘The PM Benazir and Prisoner Benazir are totally two different personalities’.
Now I came to read a copy of special edition of a Sindhi Magazine ‘Sartiyoon’ that was published in early 2008 after assassination of BB. Same Mehtab Mehboob praised Benazir like anything and wrote ‘In future, when Sindh becomes prosperous, BB’s name will be one of the prominent contributors’.
How do you see such leniency / contradictory statements?
There is this idea of showing basic respect for dead, and then there is this whole issue of sanctification of Bhutto clan simply because they're dead. There is a huge difference, and the latter must be condemned. I loath the idea of whitewashing all the flaws and sins of a public personality whose every action adversely affected the lives of millions at that time and generations after that. Such kind of handicapped mentality, cowardice and partiality is simply a crime against History and insult to human memory and experience.
Whilst the Western World revisits and rewrites the life of Margret Thatcher, bring all the information to public view, unveil the truth and draw learning lessons from her life, Pakistanis are hopelessly deluded by imposed and preposterous after death Sainthood of Bhuttos.
Strangely Zia ul Haq is not spared from criticism even after his death. I don't see any tributes about his personality except for his own wife and certain molvis (and that too in indirect tone)
