Just wana ask when Muftis around the world give Fatwas, do they write all the details/findings and the Fatwa down?
Do they give it to a religous body? Does this differ from country to country?
Are Fatwas registered? If there is such a thing?
Can the public have access to all fatwas by a certain Mufti? If they keep a record?
ofcourse they r recorded....
giving a fatwa is a huge responsinility and i am sure no muti takes it lightly....
^ ofcourse it is..
Is there a way where you can get access to fatwas, not the internet, but like a library?office?
there r many books....
i am surprised to know that u think its so hard to get fatwa books....
amughal i havnt come across any.. yet..

No problem MS, if you are in the US, call 1-800-FAT-WAWA
You can get all kinds of FAT-WA's by selecting one of the options.
Press 1: for Death threats to "wayward" authors
Press 2: for bombing Pakistani-Shia mosques
Press 3: for harassing Pakistani Ahmadis
Press 4: for killing Pakistani-Christians
Press 5: for blasphemy attacks on Muslims
Press 6: for supporting terrorism against unarmed civilians
Press 7: to repeat the options
Press 0: to talk to a MAToo for a quick FATWA.
Are you after a particular mufti's fatwas?
Most scholars' fatwas are compiled by their leading students and if not published during the scholar's lifetime are often done so posthumously. The rulings of many classical scholars are published and available in hundreds upon hundreds of volumes spanning many centuries.
Fatwas delivered by official government bodies are almost certainly filed (reference numbers, date and time etc. etc.). Some are published. The main (perhaps the only?) official permanent committee for fatwas in Saudi Arabia has published a set of its ruling - in about six volumes if i recall.
Seek and ye shall find.
gupguppy thanks so much for the info..
so the committee in S.Arabia records fatwas from all around the world?
^ The committee records its own fatwas.

haha! Record keeping is the work of Kuffar.
These 2-bit Mufti shufti are too busy in giving away Fat-wa(s). Why do they care the the thingy is properly recorded.
There is one exception though. Al-zaya-hiri fat-wa is usually recorded on a video-tape before its secret delivery to Al-janaza (woops! Al-Jazeera).
Good ole Al carefully records these FAT-was from FAT-A area while cowardly hiding in the caves.

There is a lot of confusion about the role of Muftis and their fatwas. A Mufti doesn't have the authority to give his own opinion on any matter. He has to take any question and answer it according to the judgement of any Mujtahid. His answer is the fatwa. A fatwa is a judgement on anything. For example if a person was to ask how to do wudhu according to the Hanifi fiqh the mufti would then give the fatwa i.e. explain to him how to do wudhu according to the hanifi fiqh.
^ A mufti may himself be a mujtahid.
gupguppy,
A Mufti doesn't do Ijtihad he gives the Ijtihad of other Mujtahids. If he does ijtihad then he is not a Mufti but a Mujtahid of which there are three: Mujtahid Maslaha, Mujtahid Madhab or Mujtahid Muttlaq.
^ A mufti (one who issues fatwas) may pronounce a fatwa based on his own ijtihad (if he is qualified to do so) or he may fall back on the ijtihad of a mujtahid. Just because someone is called a mufti it doesn't mean that he can't also be a mujtahid. In the same way that someone termed a muhaddith (hadith scholar) can also at the same time be a mufasir (Qur'an commentator). One doesn't cancel out the other!
MUftis do keep record of thier fatwa.......You can check how many and what fatawa were given by a particular DArul ifta.....or how many fatwas were given by a specific mufti ......
Like
there are 11 volumes of fatwa e deoband..
10 volumes of App kay masail aur un ka hal -moulan yous shaheed
10 volumes of fatwa by mufti rasheed ahmed ( late grand Mufti of Pakistan )
Bao bihari, how do you go on about checking?
thanks.
Raihan, a Mufti can be a mujtahid as well, though this may not be the case with all muftis, but only with some.
