When meeting designers

i thought i’d ask if there were any heads up about meeting some of the designers when going for wedding shopping. the last time i was in Pakistan was about 7 years ago for my sister’s wedding shopping, and i really was too young to care what went on.

now that its my turn, i’m wondering if there’s anything i should know in advance before meeting certain people. i have an appointment with Bunto, Niloufer Shahid, Nickie Nina, Sana Safinaz and Karma. for one thing, i’m going to avoid telling them i’m from the states, but i’m sure they’ll figure that out the minute i open my mouth.

anything i should take with me to appointments? i’m only going for two weeks and i have a lot of ground to cover.

Re: When meeting designers

do you have an idea of what you want? i think it would help to take a picture of a dress you really like and tell them what you are looking for in your bridal. be specific in terms of color combination, style of lehnga, sharara, gharara..length of top, etc. Im sure you're going to be looking at a lot of their bridals anyway but there might be somethings you really want in your bridal so let them know! ive never been to a designer before but i suppose these are just some of the things i would keep in mind before visiting them! :) good luck

Re: When meeting designers

Do realize that you can ask your designer to make something similar to a design some other designer has made. They can do that!
I took my laptop along when I met my designer and showed her all the dresses I liked.
Wax arms//legs/underarms so you can try on clothes with ease.

Re: When meeting designers

pre-determine a budget and stick to it! it will make bargaining with them a lot easier, and you can also tell them this is the range you are looking for, and wait to see what they can offer you in that.

Re: When meeting designers

well i'd definitely advise that if the person is a jerk don't bother with them no matter how nice their outfits are.

my advice would be dont think you need to have everything figured out. i think what separates a designer from someone who just sells clothes is that they know their products AND their clients....a good designer will be able to recommend colors that might look good on you, ways to work within your budget, and styles that would flatter your particular figure.

Re: When meeting designers

Big brands/ designers have set prices .. I dont think they'll increase them just cause you're from the states .. I think!

it doesn't matter how big their brand is they still play those *simple dukandaar tricks to earn as much money as possible.

I agree with you yanzala

Re: When meeting designers

thanks so much! the advice is really helpful. i guess i do feel a sense of pressure that i'll walk into a boutique and feel pressure to buy something that i'm not completely head over heels about. at the same time, i'm particular and don't want to regret making a quick decision because i was put on the spot.

i really want to take my time to make a decision especially when these bridal outfits are so pricey these days. i just hope someone like Bunto can understand that i need 3 days to think on it before deciding the day i show up for a 4 hour meeting. and i really hope they don't think i'm stupid enough to just decide on the spot!

keep the advice coming! it's awesome :) and helpful.

Hi afashionistalives

Are you going to the Lahore branches?

Re: When meeting designers

Great topic, do u guys think its good to tell once price range up front or wait and see what u like and thn work the price into ur range????

Re: When meeting designers

^i think it owuld depend on the designer. i think with bunto it would be better to give ur budget so she can tell u what she can do within that range.

however most designers, i would not be comfortable telling them the range. i would rather pick out the dress, find out the price and bargain. for example, nomi ansari definitely gives dif prices to dif clients.

if ur getting something made from scratch then its definitely better to give them a budget.
