^Me too. I hardly did any chores when I was 8…but then again I wasn’t assigned any. I helped set the table and put the plates away. But I don’t remember doing more than that at that age. When I was a little bit older…I’d sometimes help wash the dishes/clean the stove, vacuum, make the bed…but not with regularity ![]()
Now that I’m older, I realize that it’s important to assign kids (boys and girls) chores. …not real agressive ones…but light tasks that they do with regularity.
Hmm…praise her (in front of others) when she does do chores…so that it encourages your daughter. Maybe show her how to make breakfast or do the chores. And you could set consequences for her…she could lose a privilege. For example, you don’t get to do this/this/this until the certain chores are accomplished. You could even have a set day…once a week…where she’s supposed to do something.
My mom regrets her decision of having us focus more on school…and not as much on domestic tasks. Hey, at least she admits it.
But I remember that my friends and cousins who did housework with regularity…were assigned tasks from a young age by their parents.
