I thought they were Muslimahs, but found out they were Catholic nuns praying for Pope John Paul. Makes me wonder why in Christianity only nuns cover up, why is it restricted to them?

Re: When I first saw these nuns...
I think in many cultures, covering your head is a sign of respect.
Re: When I first saw these nuns...
I recently found out that even Sikh women should wear "hijaab" as they like Muslim women are not allowed to show their hair - most interesting.
Re: When I first saw these nuns...
In the book "Jesus Christ: Creator", the author Kelly L. Selgraves writes this:
Paul also tells us in I Corinthians 11 that
. . . a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. For this cause ought the woman to have cover on her head because of the angels. Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. (Verses 7-11)
although the purpose of the book/chapter is entirely a different subject, yet we see from the verses that the women r required to cover their heads....
Re: When I first saw these nuns...
^ Interesting. I guess Christians dont follow their religion as closely as Muslims do? Thus the various churches and schools of thought, some which approve of sex before marriage etc.
Faisal bhai only in India perhaps? I guess some Christians wear hats as part of formal dressing too.
Anyway, these nuns just looked so Muslim to me at a first glance.
Re: When I first saw these nuns...
These nuns will not be killed or threatened, if they ditch their hijabs and start wearing thongs and bra.
In muslim societies, such act would be a big problem for the poor women.
Big difference.
Re: When I first saw these nuns...
^
yeah, in muslims societies we dont like ppl who wish to introduce bad practices....
what good do u see in baring ur body in public????
its bad, and everyone knows that....
Re: When I first saw these nuns…
Depends on the body ![]()
But seriously, it is not about nudity, but it is about free will. Iranian and Saudi type socities can not intellectually progress, if personal liberties r limited.
Re: When I first saw these nuns...
And do you think personal liberties are just limited to what you wear? And the women who wear chader they don’t have free will?
Re: When I first saw these nuns…
no, they have to cover their head (both men and women) while inside the Gurudwara…and that is for a different reason. they are certainly allowed to show their hair.
Re: When I first saw these nuns…
Re: When I first saw these nuns…
No it s not just limited to it.
And yes all hijabi women r free to do whatever they want.
I dont like turkish system.
Re: When I first saw these nuns…
your link is a persuasion-oriented article, not some evidence of sikh laws…totally unpracticed by 99% of sikh women.
Re: When I first saw these nuns…
Just because something isnt practised, it doesnt mean it isnt part of a particular belief.
“Sikh men and women are enjoined to cover their heads at all times by the Sikh Rehat Maryada, the Sikh Code of Conduct. All Sikh men wear a turban; Sikh women sometimes wear a turban and often cover their head with a scarf”
