And I realize there is a double standard when it comes to women; meaning a woman must be a virgin and if she’s not there is a good chance the rishta would be rejected on that basis alone?

In my humble views, you may keep it secret to yourself if you are not virgin. If you did something wrong private then keep it to yourself and Allah is merciful and ask forgiveness from Him.

Engagement period is for you to understand each other by keeping yourself within your social limits. Telephonic conversation and chats are ok and occassional meetings are also fine depending on the acceptance levels of your families. Being intimate after engagement is not permissible in our religion. It will be a bad impact on your character and difficult for you to move on if the engagement breaks for some reason. If you feel the urge to be intimate, better to marry soon and make your relationship halal.

Yes that was an emotionally charged post, I see tons of hypocrisy in all facets of desi society, it's not Islamic society I'm criticizing but desi society. I realize many of my posts are silly, but sometimes its fun to be silly, but some of my posts are serious and I genuinely give advice. Acting silly on a forum means I won't or haven't gotten my life back? I use this forum sporadically in and out of collage lectures so I may seem like a dick, for that I apologize.

I am not against the naughtiness of married couple on phone, but if it cause the act of self enjoyment as I wrote in my post # 4 then it is sinful act. *Islamically, you can not use your own hand on your private part but your spouse can touch yours and that is allowed. *
Most scholars also suggested that if person thinks that his desire could lead him toward major sin like zina(adultery) then act of self enjoyment is ok but it still holds sin and punishment by Allah.
