When do you start having dholkis?

Salaam/Hello girls,

I’m getting married next August inshAllah. I’m the first girl to get married in my immediate family – so we’re unsure of certain traditions. I’ve seen some of my friends get married – and they’ve all had dholkis thrown about a month before the wedding. However, I’ve been to some weddings where dholkis have started three months in advance! I guess it just depends on how psyched you are about singing and what not.. But my question, in general, when do you normally start throwing dholkis?

I find the many dholkis unnecessary. One is more than enough. People have a life.

aww, but those girls with multiple dholkis just have that many different groups of ppl who like them. lets not be jealous :(

My friend had a weeklong dholki the week before her wedding, but that was because she had a LOT of family so she wanted to spend time with them all before she got married

LOL, that's exactly my question -- I would be okay with just one. But they are quite fun :) Technically when you have dholkis you don't have to go all out :S Just invite some friends, provide snacks, have fun, that kinda thing. I was wondering how many of those people usually have

People I know usually do 1-3 about 2 months before the wedding. They usually don't like to do it the weeks before the wedding because things are too hectic then.

Usually dholkis are right before the wedding festivities begin...to keep the momentum going I guess.

I had two or three...I forget...and they were right before the mayun.

i think eveyrday a week before the mehndi lol! but i have a huge family so thats probably my thinking

but id have 1 big one with a lot of friends and family and the other just family and a selct friends
