Re: when do you discredit a piece...
I discredit news when it just does not sound right to me. When my common logic combined with learned experience fails to comprehend the news such as the latest 'Level theory'. I also discredit news when i see bias in it. Whether it's good bias or bad. I may also reject news when it depicts a version that does not represent everyone, hence a different kind of ethnical, ideological and/or geological bias such as the kind seen in O'Reilly Show.

Re: when do you discredit a piece…
Public service is not but a joy!
I wish the people who represent masses kept that in mind before becoming the News of the day/week/month/year/lifetime. I doubt the blunders made by recent illogically structured news conferences of certain individuals will have any positive impact on the establishment, it has rather degraded their credibility further. A slip of the tongue whether intentional or devised to mislead, when backfires, often results in much loss than initial truth.
Re: when do you discredit a piece...
well put, teggy.
haq ul yakeen aur ain-al- yakeen is the best of all - first hand, eye witness experience.
people who believe in heresay and make ill informed decisions, suffer always.
so, it is really necessary to be self reliant in getting information and in attesting it as true by authentic source, if it is impossible to personally verify it.
