Just wondering how soon before the due date do women normally stop working and how soon after do they return to work (if at all)..

A coworker quit working during her 8th month. I've seen teachers come back a couple of months after having the baby....if she really needs the job/money....she'll find a grandparent or someone to take care of the baby while she's at work. The coworker I mentioned earlier had her baby in May....and school let out in the beginning of June...which worked out because she had the summer break to spend with her baby..and is planning to come back to work....was considering part time. Another teacher I know...plans to quite working after having the baby because she doesn't need the income that much. It depends on your fincanical situation and other factors.

I plan to stop working two weeks before my due date. Standard maternity leave in USA is 6 weeks. I happen to be in a work environment where I can choose my time off. I'm planning for 12 weeks ..... though I suspect I shall want to return sooner.

in the uk you can get up to 1 year maternity leave and thats 9months of paid leave. I will take the full year inshallah... Im due end of january 2012 so hoping to work up til end of december- around xmas time if i can cope!

I only get 4 weeks off from work so I intend to work until I possibly can just so I get to spend all that time with the baby.. I can take upto 12 weeks (vacation, sick time, unpaid) but I plan to spread it over the course of time as in come back part time and use up my vacation/sick time wisely after 4 weeks of paid maternity leave!

I wanted to work right up until the doctor said I absolutely couldn't. So many women I knew (especially the nondesi ones), worked all the way up until they were in labor, so I figured I would to.
But I developed high blood pressure and preeclampsia symptoms, so I was put on bedrest in my 8th month. I decided to stay home with my daughter for a couple years.

I plan to take a year off and work up until about 2 weeks before my due date which is mid Dec. But here in the UK what happens to your A/L.
In this financial year I havent taken much off my annual leave and dont intend to take much, can I add that on to my Mat leave or will I need to take it before the next Financial year?

Hun i think u would need to take it before the end of this financial year it depends how ur AL works out, ours its between te financial year so before i start my mat leav i will use up my AL which im hoping will be about 3/4 weeks left til then!!

One whole year!!! wow ppl in UK are lucky! in US its only 12 weeks which can be unpaid depanding on your firm.

We get a year off too. I left work 3 weeks before my due date and I'm not sure I'll be returning to work once my mat leave is up.

lucky ducks! i took off 2 weeks before my due date and returned 3.5 months later. bittersweet and mixed feelings about being back at work :/
