i have question to all mommies, when did u start your lil one giving chicken or peas or carrots.. My son is 6 month old MASHALLAH, he is just eating the rice cereal and fruit puree, i wnat to give him something fresh and home made, but i dont know what can i give him.His doc said that now i can start chicken and vegetables. last night i gave him one spoon of peas ,omg he throw up everything ,he loves sweet .Now i m worried ,how to give him vegetables and meat.
I remember reading something on the back of my niece's gerber oatmeal box that read....it takes X number of tries before a child acquires a taste for certain foods.
never ever try something NEW in night, always introduce new things in the morning so that the baby can digest it properly.plus now try to give him KITCHRI or mashed palaoo if u make for ur family and also give him .my kid love khichri more than rice cereal.
sam_sam, I started with homemade solids at 6 months, at 4 months it was baby cereals.
I started with simple moong daal + chawal khichri with some potatoes. Mash it up well. Then gradually I started adding other veggies to it...like peas, carrots, green beans. Then I started with chicken. Then you can make a thick soup with daal, veggies, rice and chicken. Once the teeth are in and swallowing is better, introduce small pastas with chicken pieces etc. Another thing which is great is sooji porridge. Very easy to digest and nutritious.
Start with one vegetable at a time, then combine two veggies then add a little chicken and continue progressing in the same manner. This way you can also judge which foods suit the baby. But try and avoid giving too many sweet tasting foods as babies will generally love these and obviously then find the veggies plain and yukky!
Try and keep the apple and banana purees as a dessert for after they have eaten a little savoury. Homemade food is always best because it retains some texture and you can gradually increase this as time goes on.
