What's your Sign?

Re: What's your Sign?

Yes, but some people go to the extent of getting 'tailor-made' horoscopes from individual fortune-tellers, which I think is taking it a bit too far.
Also, for the people who 'read it for fun', do you ever read it and think 'hey, that it SO me today' etc etc? I know some people who read it as a joke and end up taking it a bit too seriously :/

ARIES,

It used to be a good conversation starter or just continuing an awkward meeting but other than that not much. I even used STARS to start conversations with cute girls on public transit or parties :D.

Now i get reminded everyday by my wife how ARIES are stubborn, annoying and commanding.

If true, I know precisely who to redirect the angel of punishment to. The OP herself. My rear side mirror ought to remain clean with no needles in sight.

p.s. Not sure If I meant it. Hijabans make me wanna become a qurbani ka bakra. Oh my life. :frowning:

Re: What's your Sign?

Reading star signs is like betting. Those who read it, do so by betting against themselves that they can prove them to be false, but then they see something that happens to come true, through the law of averages or their minds make it true creating patterns ... like saying the clouds have made the shape of an elephant, .... Thus they draw conclusions and make judgements according to their misguided insights. For this reason even for fun reading zodiac sign fortunes is wrong .... Because the chances of putting some belief in them is quite high.

Re: What's your Sign?

On the flip side, there's more to astrology than just Sun signs. Read your Moon/Mercury/Mars/Venus sign for kicks. It's not witchcraft, it's a science that charts the movement of stars and planets and their corresponding influence on a person's birth-time. Some use it to tell the future, others use it to pinpoint their strengths and weaknesses. I have an acquaintance who studies this methodically and it can be pretty interesting in terms of personality descriptions.

Fortune-telling aside, pondering about stars isn't going to land you in Hell. Remember the Surah about constellations : "And He hath constrained the Night and the Day and the Sun and Moon to be services unto you, and the stars are made subservient by His command. Lo! herein indeed are portents for people who sense." (85:12).

As an aside, Air signs tend to be aloof jerks. I should know. :D

Re: What's your Sign?

I actually agree with your point about Astrology, 'reading' the stars, navigating etc etc were one of the things that pur Islamic scholars at the forefront of technology back in the days. I actually see this as a form of science, to be honest, and I dont see anything wrong with this.

The point I refer to is people reading horoscope to 'see' their future or putting some of their faith in someone other than God. I've met friends who have been to 'mystic' shamans or foretellers to find out their future, and have come back awed by how 'accurate' the knowledge they got back, they'll even swear to how precise it turned out to be. It really annoys me because it seems like an almost naive thing to do, and like I said, it IS haram to do these kinds of things.
