Seriously , if MILs could they would have been posting thread about misgivings of their DILs. Most Desi women have no issues other than whining about in laws issues.
It does not end there some start whining against in laws even before they get married . :smack:

I actually see both sides of the issue. CM isn’t wrong in what he’s said - some posters have the most trivial issues that inspire this reaction :smack: and makes you wonder how can people be so self-absorbed?

  • I didn’t get the wedding outfit of my dreams
  • My relative borrowed my stuff and might not return it
  • My fiance calls me too often

Some of these threads really do make a person wonder about what are people’s priorities?

I am very sympathetic to the legitimate relationship issues where people may be seeking advice or even just venting about stuff that’s happening in their lives - but for those complaining about the minor things, I too think why not get some perspective and realize there are many people worse off than you are and that making a mountain out of a molehill just shows they’re on the path to creating conflicts where none may exist.

Each of us has our own personal crosses to bear and our own heartaches and yes just because we’re not living in the back of beyond doesn’t make those less real or important to us. But there is a difference between a real disappointment/issue and whining over minor issues. And, people also need to look within themselves for their responsibility and what they can do to better the situation.

^sometimes there's nothing to be done. Also, people would rather put up with others than hurt them or disrupt family peace. While I do believe in doing your best to fix your issues, I also believe sometimes you can't do much other than just accepting your fate for what it is.

If one has accepted their fate , that is their own fault too , they should be whining .

^I don't want to be happy at the misfortune of others. So yes, I would rather whine and cry about my issues than hurt anyone or cause problems for those I love.

Accepting fate does not equal giving up. One must acknolwedge the issues at hand before proceeding to fix them. In my case, I accepted there was a problem. Then I realized there were two possible outcomes. I chose the one that will cause the least hurt.

Theorist, I disagree. Even if you cannot change external circumstances, everybody can attempt to change their own individual circumstances just by changing their thought process - depending on the individual situation of course. It's not easy, it's difficult, but it is achievable. A lot of the things I used to read here (I rarely visit this section of GS now) is something girls experience in their 20s cause their own individual self-awareness/self-esteem has not fully developed yet. It comes with time and experience and only if a person is ready for some heavy duty self-reflection.

^that’s what I meant to say. :smack: Accepting your circumstances = changing your attitude. BUT there’s a fine line between being sensitive to others’ needs and being walked all over.

even in the minor issue threads where the OP doesn't realize that maybe she might be doing something wrong herself, there's always guppies/guppans that point out flaws in the OP's own thinking, that maybe she could be more compromising or look at the positives.

Agreed. I believe that was the point he was making, valid and objective. But then to most here, its so much easier to whine and wallow.

I agree with CM. If we just look at how good we have it, we would dive right into fixing our own issues, as opposed to standing on the hedges being afraid of our problems and complaining.

But CM, that's something I would take on personally and nudge others to think about too. It would be wrong to tell others that their problems are small so they should just get over it. The biggest problem in my life is still the BIGGEST problem in my life and if I don't know how to handle it, I don't.
