Buddy of mine wants to know if this is true. He heard that if hospitals dont give preferance to local doctors they get funding cuts. The docs in my family are all done with their residencies so have no clue. any ideas?
Yes it is true. Hershey Medical Center in Pennsylvania drastically cut down on its intake of foreign medical graduates because of lack of funding a few years ago, and now they don't take any FMGs at all. And this I believe has happened in several other places too. But all is not lost for FMGs..yet. There is still a shortage of doctors in the so called 'inner city' hospitals, where FMGs may be accomodated very easily.
