Re: whats the most stupid tradition you've ever heard?
i just came from PK so I know of some too:
If u sleep on ur back (for girls mostly) then ur shoulders will get wide and hips will get wide. If u sleep on ur back after pregnancy ur hips will most likely get wider.
In ur first 3 months of pregnancy if u drink coconut water or eat coconut then ur child will be gora.
Re: whats the most stupid tradition you've ever heard?
oh and if you wear someone else's hat , you or that person (again i dont remember) will lose hair....
but i guess things that are being mentioned here are more of superstitions than tradtions....
Recently, I did hear about a really weird tradition from my roommate...
She says that in their family when a girl gets her first period, she's not allowed to go out of the house for 7 days in which lots of other rituals are performed on her....like bathing her in some kinda weird water and feeding her weird things....and then getting tonns of presents from like the whole family (which is not bad i guess lol) and then getting blessed by an elder etc etc......
she said that she had to go to her dadis house, dressed in super fancy clothes and then when she got there, they put gajras on her and all her male cousins were just sitting there staring at her....i m guessing that was like the most embarrassing moment of her life...
anyhow, i found this tradition a lil too out there...
oh yes i have heard of that tradition...i beleive it's a tamil tradition...more like it's a part of thier religion....there was a thread about this somwehere..but cant seem to find it right now..
Re: whats the most stupid tradition you've ever heard?
the worst i came across was the brit culture tradition .
in the 18th century the shariffs spend the first night as a (ransom to the whole state) with the bride ( whom -ever she was supposed to be ) and then let her go with the groom next day ..
Re: whats the most stupid tradition you’ve ever heard?
ohh yes, another one..this is actually quite funny…
ONE SHOULD NEVER LEAVE DIRTY DISHES UNWASHED OVER NIGHT SINCE THE DIRTY DISHES GET THE ABILITY TO SPEAK AT NIGHT AND THEY CURSE THE HOUSE MEMBERS THE WHOLE NIGHT FOR NOT WASHING THEM .lolzz:smack:
Re: whats the most stupid tradition you've ever heard?
oh yes another one, that my mother religiously believes in is never cut your nails after maghrib ( dusk) that is at night..because as she states, GHAR SE BARKAT KHATAM HOJATI HAI

Re: whats the most stupid tradition you've ever heard?
Paying the meter reader 1000 rupees per month for electricity is a well established tradition, almost all of my family members believe in that. Paying the traffic sergeant, a few hundred is almost like a sunnah of driving on motorcycle. What else, never going to a thana for an incident and yet be named in the FIR, settling disputes by hiring street thugs are just few of the common traditions. But the most stupid tradition, I have seen in Pakistan is to keep quiet when oppressed, not to fight for justice, and each person is fighting his own war against the corruption while indulging in corruption.
Re: whats the most stupid tradition you've ever heard?
Oh I have heard of that one too....and it really happened twice. I also have heard that while u make atta that if it purks (urdu meaning: twitches) on its own then guests r coming.
