Marketing, they spend millions marketing it...getting children excited and making them make their parents buy it at an inflated price.
Each generation seems to have its stories of a magical world children have wonderful imaginations so can see themselves there... Weve had The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, The Narnia books by CS Lewis and a number of others but they havent been marketed as The Harry Potter books have and havent made extortionate amounts of money.
It seems that each new bbok seems to compensate for this by being padded out with pages and pages of additional chapters.

actually, yeserday my kids were watching its DVD…n i wanted to accompany them…sat thhere for a while …but could see all of it…i can’t watch TV/ movies …actually can’t sit that long …so just gave up…
but i was reading some news about it …n was wondering wats sooo special!
btw, i haven’t seen kids going as much crazy as adults themselves!

Many adults are crazy over it (included our lecturer), which why is they eventually published an adult series too (only the cover was different mind).
its not just the marketing, that came after the first 3 books were published. Infact rowling was rejected out right by the first few publishers she went to. They must feeling like real muffins each time a potter book is released.

Movies are NEVER EVER as good as the books they come from. The cardinal rule of a serious reader (any genera) never watch the movie before having read the book!

Back in 2001 I used to worked part-time at BooksAMillion. They used to have all kinds of nights for children from Pokeman to classics. Harry Potter was popular too but not more than others.
Anyway, I tried to read the first one but it was so damn boring that I never could finish it.
The series is over rated but anything that will make the kids read is ok with me, even if it is the mass media marketing front.

whats special about potter? nothing really. He appeals to the growing community of homosexual boys and butch girls. Its an erotic novel for the kids. They can get off thinking of magical creatures and magical potions whilst hanging on to thick brooms between their thighs.

Actually…i never intended to watch the movie…but as i said …i sat there to accompany my kids…i read books …but i don’t think i’ll like this much fiction in my book shelf 
as for movies …including this one (didn’t watch all…just bits n pieces) all the movies i’ve seen in my life are still in single digit…i’m neither interested nor have time!
