Ladies i need your help! I have recently received my baraat and walima lengha from pak, they look amazing but the only problem is that the kaam keeps sticking together when the outfits are packed away!! im especially worried about my walima outfit as the material is chiffon, the material is really delicate. The work is really intericate and full on so im scared that it may stick together again and when pulled apart, it may tear! i have placed tissue paper inbetween each fold but i need ideas of the best way to store the outfits, at the moment they are folded into the plastic see though bags that we got them in but its been a nightmare to get them in and out, esp when it came to purchasing jewelrey, i had to take the outfits with me. ive heard that you can purchase boxes to place your outfits in, do any of you know where i can get them from?
sorry if this topic has been discussed before, i couldnt find a thread on this subject, many thanks

usually designers and shops give a box...
do you have an ikea? they have clothes covers (the ones that zip up) made of fabric at really good prices, better than plastic i think.. wrap everything individually in those (dupatta in one, kameez in another one, etc) and fold those into the box..

Re: Whats is the best way to store your wedding lengha?
You know what I'm planning on doing? Getting them sprayed to preserve and not discolor the kaam amd then I'm buying mannequins, the dress-making kind as opposed to creepy retail store types, and putting them in my dressing room.

This is information I came across when I was looking for similar info:
Wrapping It Up
The correct packaging materials are utterly imperative for guaranteeing the life of your wedding dress. Most gown preservationists highly discourage packing your dress in plastic, because it can cause permanent wrinkles and trap moisture which promotes mildew. Most preservationists agree that white acid-free tissue paper or unbleached muslin are the ideal packaging materials. Ordinary tissue paper contains acid which can literally scorch your gown. Don't use colored tissue paper either. If the box accidentally becomes wet, it could stain your gown.
Packaging for Posterity
To protect your gown, many professionals recommend it be placed in an acid-free or pH-neutral box, such as sturdy paperboard boxes which allow the gown to breathe and adjust with changing temperatures. Some boxes feature a viewing window: a clear panel designed so you can see your gown without opening the box. If your box features a window, look for acetate rather than plastic, and keep the box out of direct light, which can yellow the fabric over time. Some companies utilize boxes with Coroplast, a specially designed plastic known for its durability.
Sealed With a...?
While some companies choose to seal the box to keep out insects and vermin, others say sealing is unnecessary, if the gown is packaged correctly. If you do open the box, remember to use discretion when handling the dress. Don't bother with white gloves. Just make sure you have clean hands, to prevent body oils from invisibly transferring to the gown and causing yellowing over time. Many brides want to include items such as shoes and jewelry in the box, along with the gown. Some preservationists believe these objects may emit damaging fumes and ruin the gown, but others find these can be added if they are cleaned and wrapped separately; for instance, invitations and programs can be placed in acid-free envelopes.

Wedding Gown Preservation Tips
People often dispose off their wedding dress bags, thinking that the plastic bag would be of no use in the future. A little known fact is that the bag can be very handy, when you want to preserve your wedding dress for the future. So, make sure to save the bag in which your wedding dress came.
In addition to the bag, you will need a clean, white cotton sheet to wrap the wedding gown. Wash the cotton sheet in hot water, before using it for the purpose. Do not use detergent to wash the sheet, because the chemicals might ruin the fabric of the sheet and eventually, your wedding gown.
Wrap the wedding gown in the washed and dried cotton sheet and then cover it with the plastic bag. Be careful while wrapping the gown, so as not to result in tearing away of the fabric or the hemming
Send your wedding dress for dry cleaning, one or two days after the wedding ceremony is over. Ensure that you send your precious gown to a professional dry cleaner, who specializes in preserving formal gowns. You may get some help from the bridal shop, about a good dry cleaner.
Ask the dry cleaner to take care of your gown, during the cleaning process. Alert him about the stains in the gown, if any. If the ornaments in the gown are glued on to it, rather than sewed, do not forget to inform the cleaner about the same. This is very important, because the ornaments often fall off during the cleaning process.
Ask your dry cleaner to wrap the wedding gown in a clean, acid-free tissue papers. Be sure to mention that you want the high quality tissue papers to be put in between the folds of the gown, to avoid permanent wrinkles on the dress.
Ensure that the dress is stored in an acid-free box, since the chemicals present in the acid can spoil the fabric of the gown. If possible, ask the cleaner to wrap the dress in an acid-free box, after completing the cleaning process.
After you have collected your wedding gown from the dry cleaner, place it in your closet, in a very neat manner. You may hang the wedding gown in a padded hanger, to avoid wrinkles.
The wedding gown should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. The temperature of the store room should also be taken care of. This is because the temperature has an indirect effect on the fabric of the gown, after it gets treated with chemicals during the dry clean.
Inspect your wedding dress on each anniversary to check whether it is in good condition or not. Make sure that you allow the dress to 'breathe' and then store it properly again.
Thanks for the info giggles ;)

What spray is this, I want to get it done too!!
There is one place in Lahore who does this ONLY for bridals but basically it's a spray done over th dress's kaam and you let it sit at room temp. for 24 hours. It prevents it from discoloring and also so those termites don't eat your cloth, etc.
I'll find out the exact spray and let you guys know. I'm SURE some dry cleaners here n the US do it as well.

Re: Whats is the best way to store your wedding lengha?
So what is the name of this spray? I guess I could just google it, but no one's really replyed. I'm curious myself!
Re: Whats is the best way to store your wedding lengha?
I'm trying to find the name or a similar product available in North America/Europe. I saw it when my mumaani used it for her wedding and then my cousin for hers. Both weddings were about 9 years apart so I know it's still being done.
I'll update you guys when I get the name.
when i got my bridal outfit from PLK they were butter paper (tracing paper) type paper in between them.
My mom places newspapers between the folds of the clothes...especially if they have the type of embroidery that snags at the cloth. And it works.

Your wedding dress should be displayed on a life size 22ct gold mannequin (made to the exact shape of your body) stored in a floor to ceiling glass encasement in your dressing room.

Too much work. The freezer is more convenient. To wear, simply thaw and dry.
