What's happening to me?

It’s been a month now, I’m having problem with sleep, as soon as I try to sleep I feel my heart beating too fast, I can actually hear it, and then the feeling I’m falling and feel claustrophobic. I haven’t slept properly tonight and woke up early coz of kids and now I’m feeling sick coz of lack of sleep.

Please help.

Re: What's happening to me?

just googled and saw lots of people are having similar problems...jolting and irregular heartbeat, panic and feeling that you're heart gonna stop and you're going to die. :/

Re: What's happening to me?

Palpitations. You should go see a doctor as soon as possible

Re: What's happening to me?

Hey Hareem

Do you also find yourself sweating and finding it difficult to breathe?

Also do you get this feeling that you are going to die every night?

Re: What’s happening to me?

I think you have generalised anxiety disorder, check out this leaflet and head to your GP

Re: What's happening to me?

Yeah Inspiron is spot on i think ... Hareem take action please ...

Re: What's happening to me?

no sweating but minor breathing problems...and yes the feeling of getting an heart attack coz of the jolting in heart.

Re: What’s happening to me?

Yes, I have a strong feeling that anxiety is causing it, in past, I have suffered from anxiety, especially when I was too happy/excited or too stressed.

Problem is that I don’t want to see a doctor or ask for anti-depressants as I homeschool my kids and I think somehow it can effect that by having anti-depressants on my medical record.

Re: What's happening to me?

Hareem you dont need anti depressents for anxiety.

You need an anxiolytic which is completely different to an anti depressant. You can also go and ask for a sleeping pill - very common.

And in any case an anxiolytic or anti depressent for mild cases will not effect your record.

They are much much much more common than you think.

Cut down on your caffeine intake, try some yoga and look up relaxation techniques in the mean time see if that helps.

Re: What's happening to me?

I do pilates regularly but you're right I need to cut down my caffeine intake.

Re: What's happening to me?

Hareem, how much caffeine do you have in a day?

Also, you buy herbal things to help you sleep better from boots, I tried Kalms during my exam time and they work well.

Re: What's happening to me?

Quite a lot actually, I drink diet coke everyday to fight laziness and then tea before bed.

I called my sister in Pak and she suggested taking a tsp of grind fennel and thymol before bed, she thinks indigestion is causing it.

Re: What's happening to me?

There is NO WAY indigestion causes palpitation - sorry hareems sister.

Cut the tea before bed.

Re: What’s happening to me?

it’s just an increased amount of caffeine intake, background stress in your mind as well as probably your over ambitious dieting. Do you also have that feeling when you have fallen asleep and you feel you are falling and you want to call out for help and move your limbs but are unable to do so ?

Also keep a check on your bp!

Anxiety isnt a major problem and should be easily solved IA :hugz:

Re: What's happening to me?

Coke will kill you. Cut back on tea. Mind you, if I had to homeschool my son I'd be having a heart attack everyday...

Re: What’s happening to me?

thank you Enigmatic…

When I get the falling feeling I just wake up and as soon as I close my eyes for sleep I feel my heart is jolting and then I can’t breath and start to take deep breaths but it doesn’t make any better.

I have 3 boys…been homeschooling them for 4 years now. :hehe:

Re: What's happening to me?

Re: What's happening to me?

You know there's a whole forum on internet dedicated to people with this sleeping disorder, they're not able to figure out what exactly it is.

Re: What's happening to me?

Don't you have free healthcare aka doctor visits?
