They might be two separate things but it’s another story when the running leaders identify themselves as secularists. If we’re going to talk about encroaching personal freedoms, there are many other things that we should talk about. There has been a time that Turkish people weren’t allowed to own any Quran or religious book, what made them bury these in the ground or hide them in caves etc. There has been a time that whomever would say or write any Arabic word was jailed and tortured. Students who attended Islamic Education Schools were beaten up, students who wore a hijab have been beaten up. Guess what? This all happened when the secularist/Kemalist leaders were running the country. Talk about encroaching personal freedoms. And please give me some examples about restricting personal freedoms by this government.
