A good salary for IT consultant: Hmm… It all depends upon what exactly are you doing in consultancy. Infrastructure, Project management, SAP implementation etc etc.. Every domain is seperate and has different class of remuneration.
If you have acceptable academic qualification and roughly around 10 yrs experience, you can easily get 150K salary. And it should be sufficient enough to live in NY. Now since its your family with you I wont recommend you to get accomodation in NYC, rather just live temporarily till you move to suburbs or may be in areas like Queens. You’ll know once you come in.
Taxes: Akh.. wut a sensitive topic. NYers pay so much taxes. Overall you’ll pay around 40% here as well. Property taxes are low than suburbs.
I doubt if you can get 48k bonus unless you are a VP or any other executive
