Re: Whats and whys of rape?
It is obvious from this that rape is about SEX, yet why do we believe feminists who have disseminated into mass culture that rape is about POWER? Convince me it is about power.
There is nothing obvious. 60% is a big number but statistical error of 10% or more is not uncommon which will bring you very close to the 50% mark.
Brain is a complex organ and different people may commit rape for different reasons: Power, Sex, Taboo.....
I have not read any of the scholars above (nor do I intend to) but in my opinions having (or feeling) control (=power) or anticipation of sex produces very similar hormonal responses in the body. Infact, feelings of extreme control can induce very strong feeling of sexual arousal in both males and females. The state of heightened arousal could come from any of the differeing mechanisms (or a combination) and trying to quantify that mechansim is a futile effort. The rapists and the victims age bracket, to me, indicates that the rapists have certain sureity that they can get away with the rape (culture reasons, naivety, etc.).
I don't believe in that "unrestrained" comment as well. I think all humans (males and females) have the mental ability, and may be desire, to rape. Most of the times that desire is in our sub-consious only.
IMHO only.
