Whatever happened to...

Imran Nazir, Asim Kamal and Azhar Mahmood?

Imran Nazir was hailed as the next superstar opener when he started playing for Pakistan and did play some memorable innings for Pakistan, specially in the one-days. Have not seen him for a long time now.

Asim Kamal has got a much better technique and temparament than Faisal Iqbal, and has impressed in his last few outings. Does any one know why he’s not part of the team?

And Azhar Mahmood has just disappeard. I still remember his two back-to-back centuries against a strong SA bowling attack in SA. Pakistan could definitely have used his all rounder skills in this series.

Re: Whatever happened to...

Nazir was dropped due to bad form, don't remember but I think Asim kamal was dropped to make room for someone, but then he lost his form, and hasn't regained in since, and Azhar Mahmood was dropped because we had Razzaq.

Re: Whatever happened to...

Nazir got impatient when wanted to score 10,000 runs as per requested by Zabardast mian here (hit each ball hard, no "dot balls" etc) so he got axed.

Asim Kamal is struggling to make a comeback, he needs to learn to play new ball.

Azhar Mahmood got pregnant :o

Re: Whatever happened to…

:hehe:

Well, Asim Kamal is a middle order bastman, so it’s not too often that he gets to face a new ball. He would have been a better choice than Faisal Iqbal :naraz:

Re: Whatever happened to…

You think everyone else in pak team has learned how to play the new ball?

Re: Whatever happened to…

:hehe:

Re: Whatever happened to...

Nope, thats why there is a round-robin/merry-go-round circus of openers. At least Younis, Yousuf, Inzamam do manage to play the new ball.

Re: Whatever happened to...

lol, our openers r the ones who can't play the new ball, anyone see something wrong with that, at least we'll get to watch Hafeez open next match, I can't wait! He might not score a fifty, but we will see difference between a good opener and bad one.

Re: Whatever happened to…

I would go for Imran Nazir in any form than Imran Farhat, and Sulman Butt too in his current form .

Asim Kamal hit 95 and 52 not out in his last domestic match. Kudos to our selectors for dropping him!!!

Re: Whatever happened to...

Ah no, his scores after those ones have been, 26, 7, 10, 57, 6, & 2.

Re: Whatever happened to…

Asim Kamal is one of the Standy Players for this tour. Its very unfortunate that he was not selected because he has performed consistently in all matches that he has played in pakistan for. I remember him in India Series and he was really a huge strength coming in at No.6 and dealing with the likes of Kumble & Harbhajan.
Even in Australia he played well and his test debut against SA where he scored 99 and unlucky not to score a century on debut.

We need him badly because Faisal Iqbal’s 6 innings in this series are at an average of 15.xx, total score of 91 - which is really pathetic for a Batsmen of any calibre. So the axe should fall on Faisal for the 4th test.

Asim Kamal has an average of 37.73 in 20 test innings.
Faisal Iqbal has an average of 25.17 in 29 test innings.

Both are No. 6 batsmen, who would you pick?

Re: Whatever happened to...

Asim Kamal - its a shame these bloody selectors don't realise this.

Re: Whatever happened to...

Yes Asim Kamal is a shame.

Re: Whatever happened to…

:omg:

Re: Whatever happened to...

I liked Imran Nazir...he had a positive attitude towards the new ball...he had Afridis indicsipline but hje was a lovely strokeplayer...on his day hes better than Farhat and Tuufeeq at least...

Kamal should be there instead of Faisal Iqbal...Iqbal doesnt instill me with confidence and being dismissed by Collingwood first ball is disgraceful...but to be honest that position should be for Razzaq...he a decent seam bowler who can bat well...Him and Akmal were the saviours in our lower order...in the current state the tail is far too long...
