Casts of people. Now dont take the wrong meaning of cast which is the cast system in Hinduism. By cast i mean "zaat" or a group of people categorized either by by geographical placement or the kind of trade they're involved in.
Jatt's from what i know are a kind of punjabi people found in Muslims and Sikhs and probably Hindu too (not sure about that). Sikh Jatts are known in india for their control over the transportation industry especially heavy trucks.
Mir's are also another zaat which im not sure of the roots.

Cheegum: Jatts were ancient tribes which became known as "castes" (Hindus) or "Zaats" (Muslims). Zaats or Castes are occupation based while tribes are not. When they arrived in India, they found a rigid social system set up by the Aryans and were uneasily made to fit into it. The running stereotype for Jatts is that they were farmers/agriculturalists..but the reality is that there is no barriers to what Jatts have or have not done.
Jatts are not Punjabis only, but also from Sindh. Bhuttos related to Bhuttas are Jatts so is a large portion of Sindh called Surmas. The combined Sindh/Punjab Jatt population is quite large.
so is Khokhar or Lohar another caste? i know im a lohari and a khokhar... but i dont get the system
