Ok just a question. As most people on gs are Pakistani and most carry on their pakistani values it would be nice to hear opinions. If you and your spouse were sitting with your family at a dinner table would you eat out of one plate? Or seperate? What are your views on that?
Re: What would you do???
Depends on if you are newly wed or not:cb:…
Personally in order to make others feel comfortable it is better to eat from your seperate (but equal(I had to put that joke in:D).. plates. Its just that the other people around you like parents olders etc may feel uncomfortable. It is better to keep such things when you guys are alone:)..
Re: What would you do????
Hmm. I've always seen my parents eat out of one plate most of the time. No matter who was around. Same goes for my siblings and their significant others. I plan to do the same Insha'Allah.
It's a family tradition with us. hehe.
Re: What would you do???
it all depends on u, u and ur spouse are comfortable then y not? plus u r married no one is going to object. :k:
Re: What would you do????
We sometimes use to do that but I stopped because then I loose track how much I have eaten. :)
Re: What would you do????
i have never heard abt this tradition before..i guess every once in a while if u do tht its okay..but to share the same plate everytime or most of the time..it doesnt make any sense to me..why would u do tht?
Re: What would you do????
Me and my hub share plates but not in front of people.
Re: What would you do????
no no cant do that... need my own plate and he needs his.

well my Chacha was once sharing his plate with his wife... and he just looked at my Mum, smiled and said "iss se mohabbat barh ti hai!"... so maybe that's why ppl do it :)

I´ve seen ppl in shaadi videos from pak, most of them r eating from one plate its look like food war haha. well in my opinion I prefer a separate plate.
maybe if me n my hubby where alone then it doesnt matter, but in front of family n stuff I prefer a separate plate.
Re: What would you do????
in any case i will eat in serpate plates dusnt look nice..
Re: What would you do????
We normally have our own plates but when there are snacks which we need to have sauces, my husband will be "double dipping" < "quoting from Seinfeld shows" from my plate. Normally we share desserts or if one cannot finish it off, the other does and we have never had stares...
IF we do have...i'll just give them a stare....
Re: What would you do????
I prefer seperate plates...when no one is around, then it's a different case..but around family and people, no sharing of anything!
Re: What would you do????
We share at home or when with our families around. But i dont knwo if we will do the same if we visit his family in Pak, most probably not. Oh we also dont share if we are visiting someone ofcourse.
Re: What would you do????
i think it depends on who with you at the time i mean if you are sitting with cuzin's and u have that sort of a relationship with them then it’s a different thing but I personally think that if there are grown ups in the room such as parents uncles aunties etc I don’t think I would every do that and I don’t think my husband to be would do such a thing either because in a way it can be respecting the elders I guess...:)
Re: What would you do????
Sometimes at home we may share a plate, but usually when we go out we eat in seperate plates. Sometimes its just convenience. But how does that make parents/relatives etc uncomfortable if a couple is simply eating out of 1 plate?
When we go out to eat, we order seperate items, but sometimes I might take a bite or two out of his plate to try whatever he may have ordered.
Re: What would you do???
i’ve never seen any couples share from the same plate! but me and my husband did share the same salan with our roti lol a few times. there wasnt actually anyone else there though. i wouldnt have a problem with it, unless it was chawal…![]()
Re: What would you do????
It's only appropriate within the context of being in another cultural setting where eating out of one plate is fine.
For example, some Somali and soem Arab restaurants provide all the food on a single very large plate; only then is it polite to eat out of the one plate rather than separate plates
