He's not your "girlfriend." He told you about his intentions hoping (probably) that you would pass them on to your boss which would in turn kick start a bargain with your "girlfriend" in control of it. Now be a good friend a spread the word around.

If on the other hand this assmption is wrong, no harm done as he's leaving anyway.
