your partner got in trouble with the law? What if it’s something they were not completely innocent of, but got hoodwinked into and got caught doing? I’m not talking about criminal stuff, just ole regular unethical business deals or something of the sort. What would your reaction be?
mazeed jutiyaan . . . and honestly its like losing trust in him and it will take A LOT of time to repair . Personality issues at not like being jobless , they are hard to fix and sometime impossible .

Well, if what he did can get sent to jail (even if its non criminal) and/or could could have an effect on our current financial assets.....then the #1 priority would be to hire a as*holish lawyer who will do whatever it takes to either get my partner off those charges....OR minimize the damage as much as possible.
Assuming the lawyer manages to keep him out of jail....I'll probably end up throwing his "mistake" to his face for the rest of his life (not to mention completely re-vamping our fiances so that if he makes the same mistake again....my kids and I are protected).

How do you minimize the risk of it ever happening again? i get the talking to part, that i can do, and doubly make sure i am not affected financially or otherwise. Emotionally, well that's another story.

The only think I can think of which MIGHT minimize the risk is IF the partner actually went to jail. Other than that....there really is not much to do. All you can do is to take steps to protect yourself and the kids if he/she ever does it again. If greed got to them the 1st time around....there's NOTHING you can do to prevent it from gettimg to them a 2nd time.
