Re: what would you call 'em?
Why is it respectful when we say Ammi/Abbu when they're not our biological parents but the same is not expected of the guy?
Age old gender dichotomy to show who is in real power. I'll be calling her "aap" and "Aunty" too .
Re: what would you call 'em?
The doors of Cafe forum are open during this month. Have some patience.
Well..as a fella..dont care as long as she respects my parents. And vice versa of course.
Re: what would you call 'em?
...what would a girl call her mother and father in law like mum/dad or aunty/ uncle? and what would a guy call his mother and father in law? What do you guys and gals that are married call your in laws?
In public, in the presence of your spouse, discussion forums or when talking to your best friend in private?
what would you call 'em?
I call my FIL abbu because he told me to call him that and my MIL aunts because she told me to call her that. My husband want me to call her ammi but since she doesn't want me to call her that than how can I
Re: what would you call 'em?
I had always thought I'd call my ILs uncle/aunty. And I did call them uncle aunty until we got married. I switched to ammi abbu after that because they have an older DIL who calls them ammi abbu. So sometimes they'd refer to themselves as ammi abbu and I guess I figured since they are used to that with their first DIL, they might expect me to do so as well.
Re: what would you call 'em?
I directly take their name, in fact call them tu.
Agar disrespect karni he hai then go all the way. Khali peeli don't stop at aunty/uncle, take their name directly. That will teach them to marry their son or daughter to you.
Exactly how is it disrespectful to call them Aunty/ Uncle? I asked my hubby what to call his mum and he said "Aunty is fine"... his mother never requested the "Ammi" tag either (i wouldv'e called her that if she had asked)... despite that, there's a lot of mutual respect between us (Alhumdulillah) and thats ALL that matters.
Whats the point of calling someone Ammi/ Abboo but its more lip service and no true feelings are involved, particularly in cases where the DIL is treated badly and is still made to honour her MIL with "Ammi"?
Re: what would you call 'em?
I call my FIL , uncle ..even though his other daughter in law calls him "daddy".
my hubby calls my parents uncle aunty as well... but occasionally he will call my mom "baby" just to make her laugh lol
Re: what would you call 'em?
I call them ami and Abu but it causes confusion. I wish I had stuck to aunty and uncle as I call my own parents ami and abu. Changing it now is a big no no me thinks ![]()
Re: what would you call 'em?
I call them ammi abbu. Abbu came easily as he asked me to call him that. With MIL, for a very long time I would just call her app. Eventually I started calling her ammi since bhabhi used to call her that too.
Hubby calls my mom, aunty
Re: what would you call 'em?
