i am NOT planning this yet i was just wondering if it is as bad as it sounds..I think i am gonna let my parents go all out..decorate me like a cow and put me on a stage for everyone to see :smiley:

well one thing to consider is that the daughter needs her father or wali's permission for marriage. The wali is one's father and if the father is deceased then ones brother

oh the fathers gonna be there..its just that he wont know hes attending his daughters nikkah till hes asked for the permission

I don't think spontaneity is something which is appreciated in desi culture. So chances are you will have a number of shell-shocked guests and will have to hear the taunts or sob-tories (of "hai hamaray kitnay armaan thay") till the day you (or they) die. If you are ready for all of this, and think the temporary kick is worth the shyte you will get later, go for it.

LOL. It's a neat idea but practicality wise you can add it to PCG's neat little fantasy basket. [Unless you have really cool and understanding parents who defy the stereotype or you are willing to live through a life-full of grumbling and whinning]

So, if the Wali refuses to acquiesce, does that mean the marriage would not be legal?
