I think Portuguese were present there and yes French also had possibility. But lets assume that no foreign powers came then what had happened after the death of Aurangzeb.

Not only brits made us beleive but they really were, our zamindars in India were far cruel to their own people than goras, it was better that we had brits than franks and german, who knows hitler might have started another non aryan clean up in India:)

But I hate British administration because they gifted us same cruel feudals whose forefathers were puppet in the hands of British rulers and now their descendants are quenching their thirst with the blood of poor people.
Invaders be it Ghaznavis and Ghauris or British only worked for their interests.

Then maybe the Portuguese would have reigned supreme. I shudder to even imagine a possibility of Goa like inquisitions happening all over India on a large scale.

BTW whats the story of Goa? Had the area ever remained under local rulers?

A brief and very concise history of Goa::D
It was a part of the Vijayanagara empire in the medieval times though its history dated back to almost 30000 BC after the discovery of rock engravings. Sumerians had trage contacts with goans and quite a few of then settled there. There are references to Goa in cuneiform. Goa was ruled by the Kadambas from 10-14th centuries. In 1350 AD, it was conquered by the Bahamani Sultanate and in 1370, it was conquered again and made a part of vijayanagar empire. In 1469, it was recaptured by Bahamani Kingdom again. It was later a part of Bijapur kingdon before it was captured by the Portuguese in 1510.
When India became independent in 1947, Goa remained under Portuguese control. The Indian government insisted that Goa, along with a few other minor Portuguese holdings, be turned over to India. However, Portugal refused. France, on the other hand, which also had small enclaves in India surrendered all its territories like pondicherry almost immediately.
On December 16, 1961, Indian troops crossed the border into Goa.it resulted in the unconditional surrender of Portuguese forces on December 19. A United Nations resolution condemning the invasion was proposed by the USA and the UK in the UNSC, but it was vetoed by the USSR. Under Indian rule, Goan voters went to the polls in a referendum and voted to become an autonomous, federally administered territory. Goa was admitted to Indian statehood in 1987.

The Portuguese would not have been easily overthrown even with Indian help if the native Goans were divided. At the time of independence, the hindus were around 57% and Christians were around 40% of the population. In spite of being a sizable minority, the goan christians were united with their hindu brothers in demand for freedom against Portuguese rule. Many of the initial Goan freedom fighters were Goan christians .Anthony D’Souza, Mark Fernandes, Alfred Afonso and Rancour Patriota are some of the notable Goan-christian freedom fighters. I think this was the only instance in colonial India where a community stood together for freedom without bringing religion into the picture. Imagine if the 40% goan Christians had sided with Portugal only cos they shared a common religion, the whole scenario would have turned out into an even worse Religio-political quagmire.

Another scenario is that the Maratha empire would have consolidated itself and ruled for a long, long time. Despite the loss at the 3rd battle of Panipat, the marathas re-captured Delhi and restored their power in North India in ten years of the battle. The empire only ended in 1818 after 3rd Anglo Maratha war against the British.

portuguese, french, and dutch were already trading and looking around many of india's ports. they weren't anywhere near as bad as the british have been in south asia.
but to answer the main question - it was only a matter of time. the west had experienced industrial revolution - the rulers in delhi weren't into science or technology. the world was poised for a western takeover in many ways.

Thats what I had in my mind about Maratha rule. But if we ignore chances of foreign rule, were Maratha in position to rule all (majority parts) of India. How about Sikh rule, who were strong in Punjab?
