eh? Are you talking about somewhere far in the GTA (and not the city of Toronto)?
The semi in our street (this is within the city of toronto) sold for 650K two years back. Prices now should be even higher.
By the way, it is a tiny house. Like <3,000 sq ft. But at the time of sale, it was 1 year old so almost brand new.
:hinna: The only compelling reason to move to the States. I can’t think of anywhere in the UK where you can get this kind of house for £326,000. Yea, there are places were you could get a 4-5 bed house but nowhere near the same square footage, amount of surrounding gardens/land or done anywhere close to those specifications.
At $480 000 this bad boy has 5 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. It’s a 5521 sq ft house that sits on a 0.7 acre lot. And these lots are fricking humongous. The schools in the area are pretty good also. And did I say how big the lots are?
In my neighborhood you could get two houses and a Corvette for that kind of money. Of course the schools here aren’t the best in Houston. But we still have a decent sized lot. Anymore and I’d move out cause this is all the mowing I can put up with.
building a new house costing about $461900 (us $) with market value of $697000 (us) but in Aus: 5 bedroom, 2 lounge, 2 dinning, walkin pantry, big laundry, kitchen, 2x walkin robes, 4 bathrooms, theater room and outdoor living area and good block size…
I don’t know what stamp duty means. Property tax is the main source of revenue for a municipality. It is emposed on all real estate and is mostly inline with fair market value. Property taxes are what pay for for local gov’t services as well as fund the public school system.
To the best of my knowledge the property tax funds. ONKY LOCAL public school system. Resulting in a disparity wrt poorer neighborhoods. I don’t thing the state or federal govt makes up the difference. And promoting charter schools adds salt to injury - for not ALL students from poor neighborhood get to move to charter schools in better neighborhoods. But the rethugs have won this battle with their propaganda machine.
And what is with ARMs in this low interest rate environment. I would think locking in fixed rate is no btlrainer.
Yes, that’s why I said “local gov’t services as well as fund the public school system”…I should have specified **local **school system.
In Texas, this is very sore subject because we have what’s called the “Robin Hood” system…they take tax revenue from the wealthy school districts to distribute to the low income/low performing schools.
In my town, an old 60’s or 70’s 4 bed, 2500sqft (ish) house. If you want something newer you have to up your budget to 650k at least. The nicer homes are all 700k+
Stamp Duty (Land Tax) is the UK tax you pay when you purchase a property, it’s a one of payment. Property Tax sounds like what we call Council Tax, which is based on the value of your property. It is for the services offered by your Local Authority (Council), so stuff from education to waste collection.
^ In Toronto we have land transfer tax (paid at the time of a home purchase) and then the annual property taxes. For example, on a home valued at $500,000 CAD the LTT would be $6,475. In terms of the annual property taxes, it depends on which municipality you live in. In Toronto it would be $3,528 CAD.
Sounds like the same payments just with different titles. Council Tax here also varies depending on your Local Authority, for example, what you pay for a 1 bed flat in London would be the same as a 3-4 bed house in other parts of the country.
