I don’t know what stamp duty means. Property tax is the main source of revenue for a municipality. It is emposed on all real estate and is mostly inline with fair market value. Property taxes are what pay for for local gov’t services as well as fund the public school system.

Stamp Duty (Land Tax) is the UK tax you pay when you purchase a property, it’s a one of payment. Property Tax sounds like what we call Council Tax, which is based on the value of your property. It is for the services offered by your Local Authority (Council), so stuff from education to waste collection.
