What would Asian girls living in the US/UK like from Pakistan?

Well, the thing is that I will be coming to the US in May and then going on to the UK in August for my studies and will be there for a couple of years. I design clothes and sell them in the US for a lot of my family and friends and I was thinking of bringing some nice casual/formal/semi casual wear to the UK as well. I wanted to know what is going to be more popular…good casual wear? formal wear? funky tops?? please do give ideas of what range is most affordable for casual and formal wear…

Also, do let me know if any of you are interested in getting some outfits made.
Thanks so much in advance!

Sorry Mods, i tried posting this topic in the fashion segment but a window saying i dont have access to this page keeps popping up!

Re: What would Asian girls living in the US/UK like from Pakistan?

Hmmmm…

kurtas, skirts, khusse/chappals can be marketed to both desis and nondesis..

alot of shalwar kameezes/lenghas come from Indian boutiques.. Indian desigsn are totally different from Pakistani designs IMO..

formalwear and casual wear are both very very overpriced ($50-60 for simple cotton lawn outfits!).. I remember seeing a dress at raheela’s, it was georgette with simple kaam on the collar and at the zipper…it cost $75! :smack:

I think good casual wear as well as semi-formal outfits would be nice. I’d suggest that you keep the shalwars straight, as well as the kameezes normal length…too short/too long/patiala/dhoti they all go out of fashion very quickly.

I personally would like a few simple cotton/lawn outfits. They cost $10 (600 rs) to buy and gt stitched in pakistan, but here, the designs are ugly and , again, spensive. :frowning:

Re: What would Asian girls living in the US/UK like from Pakistan?

Thanxs i will keep try to keep all time fashionable outfits mostly and of course, not over priced. I think an outfit should look like its worth it as well! :)

Re: What would Asian girls living in the US/UK like from Pakistan?

Fun casual/dinner wear. Funky outfits that are trendy and hard to describe to a relative over the phone. The type of thing where if you see it, you know it's nice. Purses, sparkly and delicate beaded sandals, artificial/costume jewelry, silver jewelry, shawls in nice colors.

Re: What would Asian girls living in the US/UK like from Pakistan?

Oh, if it's at all possible, what about wedding gear?

Most of us go to Pakistan for our wedding shopping because of the tons of variety/decent prices/great quality available there.

However, goign to Pak is nto an option for LOTS of girls and their families so i'm sure it would be very welcome change to have wedding-appropriate outfits available for a decent price and topnotch design/quality.

You can start with formal/fancy dresses and maybe work your way up to lenghas. Just a suggestion :)

Re: What would Asian girls living in the US/UK like from Pakistan?

yes, please, wedding wear and good evening wear. contrary to what people might believe in pakistan, we're pretty social here too with family and friends and its always hard on the wallet to spend $200 on an average, plain silk outfit when you know you could get something much nicer with kaam etc. on it for that same amount. i find if the clothes are pretty and well made, people will pay for them even if its a bit on the higher side. if they're just cotton and cost $100 then forget it. thats not worth it at all. remember, you're marketing to an audience who knows pakistan and pakistani prices for most things- so you gotta keep that in mind and provide value for money.

where in the US are you coming too? any chance of popping by toronto while you're there?

Re: What would Asian girls living in the US/UK like from Pakistan?

Hmmm....ok, so there is a lot of emphasis on formal wear and on casual wear. I know you get ripped off paying for a casual cotton shalwar kameez thats why i started sending these affordable ones to the US for my friends and relatives. Anyways, where bridal lehngas are concerned i have designed a few for my friends but im not sure about bringing them to the US at least at this point. But casuals, semi formals and formals are definitely in.

Please do ask around if anyone you know wants anything and i will be posting a few pictures of stuff i have made for myself and others so you can have an idea of what I'm talking about....

Thankxs so much..keep the suggestions coming :)

One more thing, is sleeveless popular or no??

Re: What would Asian girls living in the US/UK like from Pakistan?

Hey, thanxs for the suggestion, Toronto No, but i can send stuff if youre interested.

Re: What would Asian girls living in the US/UK like from Pakistan?

Alot of Indian shops that sell cotton/lawn shalwar kameezes that are sleeveless (or for that matter, fancy outfits as well), do have separate, sewn sleeves attached, if a customer deosnt want to go sleeveless.

You can sell sleeveless, but as a standard, do also include short/plain sleeves that can easily be attached/detached if a customer wishes.

Thanks Sara, youre very helpful :)

no problem

Re: What would Asian girls living in the US/UK like from Pakistan?

I think alot of ppl like myself are looking for unique stuff, especially one-piece outfits, so taht not everyone in the local neighbourhood is wearing the same style/colour/design.

I particulary like choori-dhaar outfits, fishtail or mermaid cut lengahs and also the new fishtail-cut sarees. I think it's good to go for unusual colours such as chocolate, lime, burnt orange, purple - instead of the usual ferozi and pink colors.

Also, some of the Pakistani make-up brands would sell well in the UK - where bouts in the UK are u planning to stay Nooree??
