Re: What woud you do if...
What if one day you find out that:
1) there is no life after death.
2) no resurrection or
3) reincarnation...
and that once we die that is the end.
What would you do and how would your life be diff? Would that help you in becoming a better person w/o the fear of death, guilt, sex, etc, or would taking away of the hope of going somewhere better after death have negative impact on you?

This is a perfect primer to a discussion of great depth and magnitude ... Thanks.
First of all ... What if one day you find out that there is no life after death, no resurrection/reincarnation ... The immediate question comes to mind is that how would one find out?
I can think of no conceivable way that one would find this out except by experience and to experience this then it invalidates the question because in order to experience it and then return back from the state of death this would be equivalent to life after death.
However if we assume that we don't find out for sure that these things do not occur but rather our belief wanes and we doubt that these will occur then what will happen?
In order to answer this we need to analyse the cause of the doubt ... more often than not the cause of the doubt is 2 fold. 1) We have no proof that there is a life after death and 2) We begin to succomb to our selfish traits and see lesser reason to be ethical and upright.
Since the basis of ethics is being overtaken by the sense of selfish desire then the disbelief in hereafter and accountability is nil. It hence results only in an unethical change to a being. For them the only correct way to operate would be for selfish gain. Survival of the fittest ... This is edict of evolution and when coupled with atheism it creates a toxic formula of oppress or be oppressed in a persons life.
However the more learned will quickly see that over indulgence in our own desires is self-destructive. Alcoholism kills, lavish lifestyles render us worthless and incapable of doing our own tasks that we expect slaves and servants to do. Being bossy often makes people hate us and move away from us. Spending too much can ruin us and we end up with loss and debts ... Seeing this world as the only place of gain will weaken us when we lose and make us hate and become mad with rage. Sexual promiscuity will render us with disease and the problem with babies or having to kill them or even impotent with over indulgence. Eating too much will end our lives quicker.
So we would have to rethink the idea of "fittest" and naturally arrive the basis that religion takes us which is accountability and balance. If not in the hereafter in this very life. More pragmatically the world today as a whole although many utter belief in the Hereafter their physical behaviour is much like the denier of the Hereafter. They only do good because the benefits of doing so are fruitful in THIS LIFE.
I would say that there would be no change to the world as we know it if people began to disbelieve in the Hereafter ... However if the reverse was true (that people actively felt the Hereafter as though it was in plain sight), then we would get far more happiness, less wars no hunger and no poverty at all in the whole planet.
