I think a slimmer or toned waist is perceived as a sign of fitness which is invariably associated with valour and sexual stamina. But I think its a relatively new trend in evolutionary psychology, previous studies showed women’s preference for shoulders and eyes as you just said.

so basically women were asked to look at naked men, no surprise they were so busy inspecting men’s cores they had no time to look at more conventional areas like shoulders and face

I read another article on vice today that was from a different study but the same subject, I couldn’t find the link so I posted this lol. Anyways I’m curious about why women are attracted to the abdominal region the most?

This is a very controlled experiments. Men don’t walk around in swimsuits. Esp. in Pakistan’s culture. By the time girl sees his body, he would already be her spouse or friend. Unless its bulging out, I don’t think it would make much difference for casual relations. I have asked few women in Pakistan, they say we see forearms/biceps and look for a meaty + veiny (the ones with veins popping out) ones.

That is the most important factor ofcourse. Good looks may add 30% to a score but a thick wallet would add 70%. I’ve seen pretty girls going crazy for chubby short men due to this in Pakistan.

If the vice article was citing the same study with the same results then you still do not have a point lol. The sample size is small so don’t jump to conclusions about all women focusing on waist of men just yet.

Honestly I often wonder how these studies even get funded. You don’t need a PHD to come up with such concepts.
