The other day my daughter asked me how were humans made (NOT how babies are made rather how did humans actually end up on the Earth).
I had no ready answer for her. Being a stout Muslim (Alhamdulillah), I have a firm belief that Allah created humans (and everything else) but evolution is a fact.
I am confused here, what to tell my child. I avoided this question once but sooner or later this topic is going to come up again and I want to be ready next time to answer this question.
Have your children ever asked such question and what was your answer?
Re: What will you teach your child - Evolution or Creationism?
Teach them what you believe per your religion. Teach them about the scientific consensus. And do not attempt to attempt to reconcile between the two. Tell them we don't have answers to all questions. And that they will have to figure some things out for themselves as they grow older.
Re: What will you teach your child - Evolution or Creationism?
What's your own belief then?
I believe that Allah created everything, including humans. That He says and things happen. But does nature not take its course? It is very rare to find sudden spikes in nature. I do believe that we take the words of Quran too literally. But a five year old is too young to understand all this, don't you think?

And by this I mean we do not try to (or cannot) understand the under lying meaning of what is said in the Quran.
Is it not possible that what is meant by creation of Adam from clay is in fact that the seed was planted in the earth, like early single cell organisms, and everything evolved from there?
There is not much literature on this topic, fear of being labeled "kafir" perhaps?
Re: What will you teach your child - Evolution or Creationism?
Qur'an isn't all metaphorical. Adam AS was created in an instant by Allah and in jannah. He was not created on earth. Its not a completely crazy concept. Isa AS was also created in the same way ie Allah said Be and he was. Personally I will teach my children the origin of man as told in Qur'an and I will also let them know about evolution. Faith and science doesn't always have to agree. Even if tomorrow proof was brought that we 100% DID originate from apes that wouldn't shake my belief in the Qur'an. I believe Allah has a bigger plan than we could ever hope to understand and He Himself said He didn't tell us everything because there is no need to. Teach your children science, teach them to be open minded but above all, teach them to trust Allah and if some information does conflict then to not stress over it but leave it.

I believe that whenever Allah wants something to happen, it makes the thing in flow. The rain doesn't happen all of sudden, it follows a process of water evaporation, clouds, winds and finally rain.
Similarly, I believe that its not that hard to explain evolution and creationism together. Got created Adam in heaven and meanwhile, things started to evolve on earth which finally paved the way for Adam to be here on earth.
My this belief actually falls in all the science and stuff that is being discovered. The key thing, Whatever Allah wants to happen, it always happen in a flow, following proper sequences and its fate. Nothing just happens.

I agree to an extent. But this doesn't always happen in a flow. Isa AS was created miraculously. He had no father. There's no flow there. If things happen in a flow its mainly for our benefit I think but if Allah wishes for something to happen instantaneously then that too happens without a need to explain it to us.

But hazrat Mariam still went through the pregnancy (correct me if i am wrong), she still went through all the steps that a normal mother would have gone before giving birth (though hazrat Isa didn't have father) So I still see a flow here.

The miracle was the actual conception...not the birth process.

Agreed, Miracles don't have the flow. but evolution wasn't a miracle and thats what i am trying to point at ... That Allah wanted to send Hazrat Adam to earth so everything built up to the point where he can come down, as a human.
