What will it take to shake/strengthen your belief in God? (merged)

Re: What will it take to strengthen your belief in God?

That’s not how it’s mentioned by Allah in Quran. These were the gifts bestowed by the Creator on His most devoted servants.

Do you know that Solomon commanded the wind, David moulded iron with his bare hands, and Abraham spent 40 days in blazing fires.

It’s not them who had the capabilities. It was all from their Creator - only because of their utmost devotion, love and reverence towards Him.

Re: What will it take to strengthen your belief in God?

A faultless creator needs praising? and why do my deeds please the faultless? Need to be worshipped like a rock star stems from lot of insecurities, single family childhood and alcohol/drug dependency.

yeh aap log kis qis'm key baatain kar rahay hain bhai loag?

Re: What will it take to strengthen your belief in God?

What's moulding iron have to do with after life? Was david practising iron work for post-world metal workmanship? Why do you need super human capabilties if you will be united with the creator. I'd just have fun, play tennis and watch iron chef, to pass time till creator and I lovingly embrace. Man, you people make it so complicated. :D

Re: What will it take to shake your belief in God?

would you be denied 'hereafter' if you did'nt believe? Do people who fail the test come back to re-take it as lesser species like monkeys etc? You know your theory sounds very much like the hindu-reincarnation belief. Did you see my the link I post of the nangoo-pangoo saddhoos?

Re: What will it take to strengthen your belief in God?

It’s only because there’s one thing in life which has universal truth to it. It’s death, and meeting with thy Lord.
The Creator is Most compassionate, and most ready to forgive and grant mercy.

Allah has revealed the full details of what’s behind, and what lies ahead for all creations. There’s no ambiguity or curtailment in it what so ever.

Re: What will it take to shake your belief in God?

I dont know Lajawab. I dont know that everyone has a breaking point. I wouldnt put anything past anyone, but when I think of the Sahaba for example, (RA), I see that they were put to severe trials, but their faith was not shaken. I mean skin being peeled off (Anouth'Billah), thats pretty severe, but some of them did not waiver despite such horrendous trials.

I have thought about the fact that if man today was to deal with even a little bit of what the Sahaba went through, would they continue on their path? I dont know the answer to that because its an individual choice.

Re: What will it take to strengthen your belief in God?

Actually, a very good point! It’s us in need of constant guidance, blessings and mercy of the Creator. To be thankful, content, and praise Him in the highest honors to get closer to Him.

Any deed done with true sincerity & piety in heart, and done ONLY and ONLY for the sake of Allah will be accepted by Him. This is thy Lord’s promise.

Re: What will it take to strengthen your belief in God?

You answer your own query here  Complete and resolute devotion to Allah made their WORLDLY AFFAIRS easy. Why was Solomon given the kingdom like there will be no other. Or why would the creations of Allah, like the trees, the mountains, used to sing with David, the praises of Allah, or why Joseph was given the capabilities to interpret dreams, and establishment in highest honors in the Egyption kingdom, or why Moses was given the honor to speak directly to Allah - it’s only and only because of piety and faith in Allah. They were the most tested ones, and yet Allah rose them to the highest caliber in THIS WORLD, because of their faith to set example for the entire mankind.

Re: What will it take to strengthen your belief in God?

a near-death experience would have to do it for me personally though I'm trying to become a better Muslim anyhow

Re: What will it take to strengthen your belief in God?

my life :)

Re: What will it take to shake your belief in God?

my life :)

Re: What will it take to strengthen your belief in God?

With all the compassion and mercy, why make a big fuss over everything else. Watch your iron chef and be happy cuz there is mercy and forgiveness at the end. Stop twisting like a pretzel.

What does it have to do with my quote. There is no mention of the iron chef which is integral part of my people's happy lives.

Re: What will it take to strengthen your belief in God?

what is the need to "strengthen" belief in God? God is either there or is not there. there cant be an in-between. if you believe in God and then change your view based on something that went wrong in yourlife or didnt go according to your pre-concieved notions of "good things happen to good people" then thats pretty pathetic.
I dont subscribe to the "oh they didnt believe so God wiped out their nation..." stories. I personally dont believe that God works like that. its definitely beyond MY comprehension as to how God works but i do know for sure just by looking around that its not as black and white as many scriptures point it out to be. life is not fair. period. I guess then for every period and for every school of thought the idea of God MUST essentially differ. and thats perfectly ok.

Re: What will it take to strengthen your belief in God?

You keep contradicting yourself. WE are doing no better or worse than the civilization without "guidance". Come to think of it, the "guidance" has removed all rational thought and reason from daily lives of many people.

Only a 'rockstar' would need people to be constantly "thankful, content, and praise Him in the highest honors to get closer to Him." rockstars are very insecure people.

But you just said he is the most merciful and compassionate so why all the conditions. Yaar, you don't know what you are talking about, do you? Flowery language alone will not save your argument.

Re: What will it take to strengthen your belief in God?

That's just plain silly.

Setting examples and giving super-gifts to chosen few is useless when all of them are meeting the same end and embracing the "Most compassionate and merciful".

Truth be told none of these men contributed much to society, they were revered by a single tribe whose folklore found it's way to Arabia.

There are far better people in today's world who are neither given a hotline with the lord, nor do they claim membership to psychic friends network and their service to their fellow men is exemplary. Oh yes, and they were tested too.

Re: What will it take to strengthen your belief in God?

I started reading the thread ...and then my mind froze as I started reading the conflicting as well as complicated sounding ones...Im sorry..that just me...I do believe that Our religion makes sense...Its not just orders that we have to follow blindly...It all makes sense
For me, I was very religious early in my teens,(meaning praying 5 times and stuff but gradually I dont know why but I started skipping my prayers...till now I am trying to go back..
Now I want to understand the religion rather then just feed off of what was learnt in my upbringing. Its just that sometimes there r so many viewpoints on a certain ubject...one tends to go with what suits them...Its the research that I have tried doing on even small subjects like music and stuff...Somewhere its said..."its absolutely haraam the other say no its somewhat, and another no its not...Thats when the confusion kick in...

it doesn't shake us it is for us from ALLAH that he exists and if we are in ignorance we should return to him and pray to him, thats called faith. If u have faith in ALLAH then u shouldn't be saying that enough is enough.U should be doing duaa and prayers.
There is a very thin line between saazaa and aazmaaish, if struggles are hard for u and u are saying it is enough or u are shaken then its saazaa and if u are leaning toward ALLAH then it is aazmaish.ALLAH will definately test us if we want jannah so be prepare for it.
We had a very big accident and the way we survived was a miracle and it proved that there is ALLAH and there will always be ALLAH.

Re: What will it take to strengthen your belief in God?

This sounds good on paper, but when you live your life to the best of your ability, try to do good, and stay away from bad, and circumstances lead to to a situation where you are holding your dying son in your arms, knowing fully that no human capability can save him, and you know that right after that you have to be ready to say hello and goodbye to your daughter…while your wife’s life is hanging in the balance… you may not have the luxury of logically beating away doubts like “what god would allow this to happen” and grievances like " why me, why not the ones who are going around doing everything you said not to do"

But then by your token, that is pretty pathetic..right?
