I am waiting for some more good answers as time is near to give a wedding gift to someone.

Cash and household things I had registered for.

I got a lot of use out of them...crock pots, griddles, a set of lamps that matched my living room, etc.

Registries are awesome in that way because even if you don't purchase directly from them...at least you have an idea of what the couple needs/likes/wants.

We didn't register anywhere. Thankfully all our gifts were cash/checks OR gift cards.
