no cows in India can be slaughtered legally except in a few states. chori chhipe to hotii hai gaaoN vaGhaira meN...in India, we keep everything quite simple...be it shaadii, qurbani or Eid etc. bejaa israaf gunaah kii Had tak chalaa jaataa hai. Allah says He doesn't like/approve excessive-spending.
I think minorities always follow simplicity. Look at wealthy parsis around the world. They are the most down-to-earth people

in case of Muslims in India, i don't think it has anything to do with being in minority. i think it has more to do with popular culture...juts to keep it simple.

But in Pakistan, most of big show-off Qurbani is performed by Memon Seths like Aqeel Kareem. So, traditionally, this link might be traced to their ancestral areas like Indian Gujarat. No?

may be, but why it is more popular among Memon Seths. Many people across the country got money, but we never heard that a Baloch Sardar or Sindhi wadera came up with such show-bazi is respect of religious rituals. Probably, there is a 'money begets money' link behind all this phenomenon which has been traced by business minded community of Karachi.
My abu and chachu’s collectively pay for qurbani every year one for Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H), for their maternal and paternal grandparents , for their parents and for themselves to qurbani pori krny k liye dono krny party hain
I have a question.
Is Qurbani mandatory for this Eid or just recommended to commemorate Hazrat Ibrahim a.s. and Hazrat Ismail's sacrifice and obedience to God?
The practical use of Qurbani is food for the poor, so let's assume in a rich country there are no poor, then wouldn't Qurbani be a lot of waste ?
