as far as i have known from my elders, Qurbani used to be done on bakras raised in house. they used to feed the best diet and make them big N look beautiful/attractive. the best bakra was not decided in any contest but people would give their opinions and based on that the village folks will know which bakra is most talked about and thus was considered the best.
same thing was done moHalla wise in cities as well.
"The last two paragraphs summed it correctly. Unfortunately every thing is ritualism in Pakistan now, sacrifice is loosing its spirit. Instead now its turning into another way to showoff wealth. Sighsssss Air Conditions for cows and here I am hard time collecting 80K for a patient suffering from Oral Cancer. Sighsss"
However, I read that this generates huge amount of business in Pakistan every year.
And why are they importing huge cattle [probably fed on GMO feed and antibiotics] for Qurbani in Pakistan from US and Australia ?
I heard that Pakistan is way on top in livestock production.
no way, they aren’t kanjoos but reject showbaazii. i for one hate to see or do such thing. it makes me mad because these showoff people get all their reeward in this world from people and have no rewards in the hereafter. Allah does NOT like people who boast. simple!
no, not all…Muslims are FREE to do Qurbani and, except cow, you can sacrifice any animal.
Even it Western countries people can't afford or imagine Rs. 70,000 kay bakray.
My question is whether extra spending on animals make your sacrifice more acceptable to God, when His people are living in bad condition. One of our Bohri boss used to say that people should donate money (used for Qurbani) to help needy people instead of wasting (yes he use wasting) it on rituals.
Many people get angry after hearing these comments, but he got a valid point. When show off surrounds your ibadaat, then people will develop resentment for such acts.

I agree with the sentiment but there is importance of ritual.
It's too bad that inflation affects regular people who can't afford a normal sized animal but then there are those umaraa and shurafaa who are spending lakhs on Qurbani.
And most likely it is with ill-gotten wealth.
Kills the point of religious duty.

Aqeel Kareem is known khabees.
On a serious note, doing such 'shandaar' qurbani and arranging big iftaar parties / dastarkhans is now the domain of 'haram ka paisa kamane wale log'.
no cows in India can be slaughtered legally except in a few states. chori chhipe to hotii hai gaaoN vaGhaira meN…in India, we keep everything quite simple…be it shaadii, qurbani or Eid etc. bejaa israaf gunaah kii Had tak chalaa jaataa hai. Allah says He doesn’t like/approve excessive-spending.
