Everybody's talking about a [revolution](http://www.time.com/time/video/player/0,32068,771419257001_2045217,00.html). Except, that is, in China.

As the unrest in Egypt stretches on, China has blocked the country’s name from micro-blogs and is scrubbing related comments from the web. Has all this talk of freedom got them on edge?
(More from NewsFeed: Read about Egypt’s attempt toshut down the internet.)
Yes, but that’s hardly news. The Chinese Communist Party keeps a close eye on the Internet and blocks any content that could constitute a threat. Typically, that means no references to the ‘three Ts’ (Tibet, Taiwan, Tiananmen) or criticism of one-party rule. Censors also crack down ahead of a special events, such as the 2008 Beijing Olympics, or after a political crisis, like the 2009 riots in Xinjiang.

What’s more interesting is what they have said about the protests. On January 30, Global Times](http://www.globaltimes.cn/), a state-run newspaper, published an editorial warning, essentially, that democracy would fail in Tunisia and Egypt. An excerpt:
"In general, democracy has a strong appeal because of the successful models in the West. But whether the system is applicable in other countries is in question, as more and more unsuccessful examples arise.
In the West, democracy is not only a political system, but a way of life. Yet some emerging democracies in Asia and Africa are taking hit after hit from street-level clamor
Democracy is still far away for Tunisia and Egypt. The success of a democracy takes concrete foundations in economy, education and social issues."
In other words, revolution won’t bring democracy. So don’t even try.

more like “HUH?”:p…Stern control like this by China isn’t a big shocker, but what is said about democracy has some truth to it. The people protesting are the well-educated and the younger generation which is probably a teeny tiny section of the population since a majority of the population in Egypt is in favor of things like stoning a person to death. in a place like that theocratic government isn’t such a bad idea and that’s what it seems to be going towards

Re: What Uprising? China Censors News From Egypt

^ so what a theocratic government and "stoning to death" in egypt has to do china banning the news?

china has all the right do what she thinks is good for the nation. simple.
the real question would have been, this ==> when china openly blocks the news, why USA/UK (and other western media) choose to downplay the magnitude of protests in Egypt (and earlier in Tunisia) while they tried to make them look several times bigger in Iran last year?

Re: What Uprising? China Censors News From Egypt

Yeah and besides China is not as bad as is made out they have a different way of doing things there compared to the West. The Chinese are not however unfammiliar with the concepts of revolution they are merely cover themselves on this one.

I agree with Aceones! Even if Chinese state is doing a cover up of bad news, it's at least only serving its people whilst not harming anyone else, quite contrary to the US and UK whose policies in the Middle East include covert "Terrorism" as a means of control of the masses.

Re: What Uprising? China Censors News From Egypt

how is censoring news a good thing and a benefit to the chinese people. that freedom is lost

but i see what you're saying, when a country as humongous and uneven as China is still developing the government needs to have a firm control over its people in a confined/contained style or else there would be anarchy.

for china the tool towards success right now is this dictatorship style of government for other countries like saudi arabia a more theocratic/monarchy type of gov works seeing how religious the people there are

democracy only works when the people are fully literate and most are above the poverty level, economy is doing well, country is developed
