What should a man wear on his engagement, tuxedo, suit or Kurta-Shalwar?

I dont think the guy should wear a kurta shalwar or tuxedo on the engagement. And then depending on how big the occasion is and how comfortable he is, if it is a big event with a lot of people i would say wear a suit with a tie and if its less formal with just immediate family then wear dress pants, shirt, not the sports jacket and a tie if he wants to. At my engagement, it was just immediate family and my husband wore a suit. I'm sure the guy will have his own preferences as well.
