Someone gifted me this dress. I really like it but I can’t figure out what I could wear under it since I’m not going to wear it barelegged. There’s the option for black tights but I feel like that would be too much black?

You could try grey, charcoal, or navy coloured tights. If you prefer black but think it may be too much black, you could try textured or patterned tights to add some interest, like these:

I like the first ones but not sure if they'd be opaque enough. Do you think charcoal tights would take away from the sophistication of the dress?

You could try thick, textured tights like these but in black:
I have tights similar to these and they’re thicker and more opaque, more like leggings than tights.
If you’re not keen on the textured look, you could also do plain black opaque tights and add a pop of colour with your shoes and accessories if you feel that it is too much black.

For a complete different look you can try wearing palazzo with it, tight tops with lose bottoms look nice

Try pulling this off with a colour different from black - I would rock burgundy/maroon coloured tights and get some boots to go with it. I think that would look good. :)
- I don't know if this is the exact dress she bought you though? If it is... it kind of looks like a blazer as well, at least could pass as one since it has buttons and that type of structure. If that's the case - I would wear a cute T-shirt, some jeans and cute shoes and use the dress as a long blazer :P

^ Agree! I think it would look quite nice with burgundy/maroon tights and black ankle boots.

hahah @theorist, she does like me. Actually it was really sweet of her because I had mentioned to her that I liked the blazer dress style that a lot of celebs were wearing recently. She also knows I don’t dress up much so it was supposed to be something different for me. This is apparently by a brand called lovers and friends who according to her are quite well known:
I do actually like it but unlike stacy kiebler I can’t rock it with the bare legs, so she did give me the option of returning it. I wanted to figure out if I could style it before making that decision though.
@deeba no it doesn’t wrap, but if you look at the 2 sets of buttons, they do open up. Here are a few more pics of it to give a clearer idea:
