Do you have Desi long dress...the long dresses that are in fashion inPakistan. You can wear something like that with tights or pajamas. I think you can wear your flats if they are fancy/party style.
These ladies have made some nice suggestions, but my impression of office cocktail parties is less formal than the dresses suggested. Think business attire... Maybe you should try to ask one of your hubby's female coworkers or wife of a coworker what the dress code is.

Ah good point. She wrote its tomorrow and since its MLK weekend, I assumed it was at a restaurant/hotel etc.
Nabz: Stores like Nordstorm, Dillards, Macys etc. has plenty of choices. Some more formal than others. Based on the location of the party, choose some appropriate. My point in posting these dresses was to show that not all formal dresses show tons of skin. You should be able to find a dress that's long, has 3/4 or long sleeve, and is not tight. Muslimah also gave a good suggestion on asking......if not a female co-worker, simply ask your husband what the women usually wear to these parties. :)
Thanks for the suggestions. I let my sisters borrow my nice desi outfits that would have worked for this event and don’t have time to get them back
Hubby did ask coworker and she said any formal above the knee length dress…so that didn’t help!
i bought two dresses just now…one below the knee black belted lace dress that I can wear with dark tights, pumps and accessories and one long flowy black dress with some work on the neckline. I think I can wear flats with this as it’s long and I won’t need tights.
I will try and post pics in a little bit. Which do you think will work better?
^ Post the pics but just by reading what you wrote....if almost all the women are going to be wearing dresses above the knee, then I would suggest wearing the shorter dress w/ tights.
i ended up wearing the knee length lace dress with tights and a fancy cardigan and accessories. glad i did...because most people wore similar outfits :).
