Well with all the talk abt dressing up or dressing down at a wedding 
i started thinking…is there a specific outfit that goes for each day? For example, churidaar on mehndi, lengha for baraat and sari for valima? Is there any certain rule? My friend told me that saris are almost a no-no for mehndi, save that for a wedding day or valima and churidaars are best for mehndi/dholki/mayyoun… so is there a general “rule” on what outfit to wear or is it totally at the wearer’s discretioN?

i was told not to wear a lehnga on the barat as the bride is the only one that wear it 
but then i’m thinking…why? why can’t i wear a pretty sharara? so i’ve decided not to wear a lehnga on my cousin’s barat (she told me that) but for others i’ll wear when i want to

devar's wedding is this summer, there's going to be 5 functions, mayyoun, mehndi, nikaah and baraat and valima... i'm gnna wear my mehndi outfit on the mayyoun, am getting a churidaar made for the mehndi, lengha aon the baraat nad sari on the valima. now i'm wondering what to wear for the nikaah (separate functioN)...i'm thinking of my valima lengha, it wasn't very heavy at all, but ehh i dunno...

keep the nikah light imo. get a fancy shalwar kameez sewn for it.

Well my valima dress is very light in kaam, I haev shalwar kameezes from my barri that are light in kaam but fancy kapra. I guess I can wear the shalwar kameez and just dress it up wiht accessories..

Why can't you wear sarees at the mehndi...I've definitely seen it before. Same goes for lehengas at the baraat (as long as theyre not from your own shaadi).

^ I dunno someone told me it just doesn't suit mehndi..I guess it's because mehndis are fll of lots of rasams, as welll as dancing, and it's easier ot move around in a churidaar/shalwar kameez than in a sari....

I guess that makes sense...I don't think I've ever seen anyone dance in a saree.
It's usually only older aunties who wear sarees at our mehndis. Everyone else is usually in shalvar qameez/gharara/etc.

In our family we usually wear yellow coloured churidaars for the mehndi...and the gals all try to wear similar outfits.....it looks really nice.
But I have worn a sari for a mehndi function too....gujrati style with the pallu coming forward....perfect for dancing in.
Sari for the nikah....unless it's in a mosque....in which case I would wear a shalwar kameez.
Lehnga for the baraat and lehnga again for the valima unless you have some really, really heavy sari.

we usually wear semi-formal for the mayoun since we always have ubtan-fights in our family and clothes tend to get dirty. for the mehendi i like the idea of lenghas especially if u plan on dancing. on the shaadi and valima i like the idea of something elegant like a shalwar kamiz or sari.

amana, you can wear sari on barat, valima, mehndi...it doesn't have to anything with being a relative of the bride/groom... it is completly your choice :)

I am not a big langha fan so I prefer, shalwar kameez or churri dar pajama. On my sis's mehndi I had flapper(spell?)/bellbottom kind of thing. I love saris but haven't realy worn them in people :D

So..its pishwaz on the mehndi, lengha on the baraat (yes my own wedding lengha 
) and sari on the valima 
For nand’s wedding, it’ll be churidar (hopefully) on mehndi, a shalwar kameez for wedding and sari for valima (or vice versa, not sure!)

I think that lehnga suits more on mehndi functions then barat.
And on barat day it should only be the bride who wears lehnga on her wedding day.

i agree wid ur suggestion...well theres no specific rule in my opinion i have seen dulhan wearing sari on her mehendi (light yellowish lime colour) looked pretty
