Re: what to pack for hospital

It's different rules everywhere, but I was asked to call the hoispital after contractions started coming in 5 mins apart. Check with your Dr and the hospital. Also depends on how far you are from the hospital.
If it's your first child, labour will likely be slow - my Dr had told me in most cases you WILL have plenty of time to get to the hospital. For me, labour pain started in the afternoon, and we didn't get admitted to the hospital till 2 am the following morning. Just make sure you have help close by.. someone who can be with you right away if there's an emergency.
Re. hospital bag.. check what hospital provides - usually they provide maternity pads, diapers, labour gown. Honestly, when you're in labour, the last thing you will worry about is what you're wearing! Make sure you have enough clothes for the baby, including diapers and swaddle cloths. Pack some comfy clothes for yourself (something you could fit into at mid-pregnancy - your tummy will take a while to reduce). Nipple cream, nursing bras, nursing pillow if you plan to breast feed.

Re: what to pack for hospital

Well, do bring your hairbrush, mobile phone charger and phone, toothpaste and toothbrush, deodorant, makeup if you wear any, camera for baby pics, ask if they will allow regular clothes after childbirth and if they do bring them. They do here in the USA. Baby clothes too just in case and same things for the baby's father or whoever will be staying with you in the hospital.

Re: what to pack for hospital

thanks both of u :)

Re: what to pack for hospital

Toiletries are a must and bring your makeup...you will want to freshen up if people come by.

I was on bed rest for two days after surgery...needed a ton of conditioner to get through the knots in my hair when I was allowed to shower.

Usually hospitals will provide everything aside from a take home outfit so I'd find out what your hospital will take care of.

Laptop and charger, camera and charger, empty out your phone so you can take pics without worrying about storage, comfy clothes, underwear, bras, etc.

Make sure you have a bag packed for daddy too in case he's staying with you.

Snacks! Make sure you have some snacks so you can munch when you're allowed to eat and are starvinggggg!

Re: what to pack for hospital

^Do women in Pak even go to that length in packing? I remember my chachi was pregnant and left for the hospital with mom so early in the morning. She came home with the baby either later the same day or the following day.

Alot of natural births no complications means some women literally give birth go home. I would always pack a abg incase it turns into a c section. Lol i supppose in pakistan things may have changed now also and not everyone can go home so quick?

Re: what to pack for hospital

^Maybe. I totally understand packing a bag and I would as well. I just was under the impression that it's simpler in Pak.

Re: what to pack for hospital

In Agha Khan , I think the minimum is three days. They do make you shower in case of a natural birth at Agha Khan so yes pack clothes and everything. People would be coming to see you and the new baby too, remember. I gave birth in the US but the minute I came into my room I changed and put on make up as our friends were on the way, that too after quite a difficult birth.

Just waiting 38 week has started.Remember me in yur prayers

Re: what to pack for hospital

Lots of dua for you. Don't forget to come back and share your birth story. I hope the doctor is all fine about your baby's growth now.

Re: what to pack for hospital

JAZAKALLAH yeah sure. Dr said head is still not engaged. Just afraid of Labour pains and all.

Re: what to pack for hospital

Don't worry, the initial labor pains are not that bad. Kind of like bad period pain. At Agha Khan you can ask for an epidural injection which can take away the labor pain. It would make things much easier, iA.

Re: what to pack for hospital

INSHALLAH. Really? I heard it has side effects. Most of people said Aku mostly force on epidural.
