what to look for in a new computer?

my first thread in this section of GS…

i want to buy a new computer as the one i have right now is ancient and is getting pretty slow. now i’m not that great when it comes to geekspeak. i haven’t got a clue what the hell is a quad core or what a core 2 duo is :konfused:

things i’ll be using it for:

  1. mostly for internet browsing where i might play or download videos which might be up to 2 hours long
  2. downloading music/burning CDs
  3. ability to play/burn DVDs a plus
  4. not much into games but lets say i might play some online game or buy one and play it on the computer
  5. its gotta be fast :smiley: and able to run a bunch of programs at a time

budget: upto $1000.00 canadian

chacha ji, you can get a top of the line for those needs for below $1000 especially in this season… INCLUDING a widescreen LCD :smiley:

there are others which are AMD based, I believe they are good too but will let others comment on those. but I am sure you can get the top of the line for below $1000.

hey there's an HP desktop for sale at BB (intel quad core q6600, 20inch widescreen, 6gb ram, 640gb hdd, 15in1 reader, vista home 64bit) for $849.99 on boxing day
